  • Yep I'm evil! I snuck veggies on dh and he liked it!

    Dh is a die hard veggie hater. I however think he needs more in his diet. I don't push him to LC but we do real food in our house for the rest of the family. No processed junk 95% of the time.

    First let me say Dh loves homemade potato, ham, bacon soup. I tried to make it cauliflower once and he noticed. Anyways.....................yesterday I took a ham bone with lots of meat, water, spices , fresh onion, grated zucchini,cauliflower, green beans and a few other lc veggies and let it simmer in the crockpot. It smelled great! Dh said yuck I won't eat that. Once it cooled I took out the ham bone and some of the bigger chunks of ham. I used my immersion blender to puree it.

    Today I put the pureed ham veggie soup in pan with a few diced potato's and heavy cream, crumbled bacon and reheated it all. Now it wasn't that clear white of potato soup but he loved it! I'm not telling him he ate tons of hidden veggies! LOL
    Nope his soup wasn't LC but it sure was lots healthier!

    I saved some of the original pureed soup for myself and added bacon crumbles to it. Delicious!

    I do sneaky things like that with the kids. I actually buy the baby food stuff--veggies and fruits, and sneak them into whatever I can get away with. I've even done that with homemade pizza--lol. They can't tell the difference and I don't get a headache about eating up.

      See I'm mean. I'll make something and if the hubby or the kids don't want to eat it they 1 - go hungry and 2 - have to deal with me for the rest of the night!! lol

      Was, Am, Will be: 280/222/175ish.
      Started Dec 2005 and lost 105 lbs by mid 2006, maintained loss for the most part until 2009...then really let go & gained some back... lol

      01/11/10 ~ 229.0 Grrrrr....
      (Induction= only 6lbs but lost 10 inches! yay)

        I really can't do that. Because .....gulp.......I'm kind of picky. I made venison kielbasa tonight( was a gift). I like venison but I HATED this. It tasted like summer sausage. If I follow that rule I'd have to eat it. The family likes pork chops. I would have to eat those too alot . Oh my gosh and I would have had to eatten alot of carrots over the years (gag). LOL

        Our rule is you have to try it.

            Jessica Seinfeld has written a cookbook all about how to sneak veggies into your kids foods, she even has a recipe for spinach brownies that apparently you can't taste the spinach in? Might work for your hubbie!

              Another one I use for sneaked in veggies for kids and veg haters is tomato sauce for things like pasta (not for me!) and using in bolognese.

              I make the sauce by sauteing mushrooms, onions, grated turnip (I used to use carrots too), celery, spinach and garlic in half and half butter and olive oil. Zap the lot in a blender until smooth, then add tomatos, basil and seasoning. It's well more than half veggies other than tomato, and they never notice and rave about how good it is! It's a good low cab sauce too, in moderation.

                LOL yeah that is true!! Sad to say, if I don't want something I won't eat it but I'll make my family. That's not very nice of me is it!?! lol. I never really thought of it before!
                I've even had my kids eat the left over veggies they wouldn't eat at dinner for breaikfast! see I'm evil too... hehe!
