I'm okay, waiting to see if house survives... but family is safe. We evacuted at 6:30 this am... after arriving from London at 9:00 last night. We flew over the fires which was quite dramatic... miles and miles out both sides of the plane and lots of turbulence going over as winds are high, heat etc... tried hard not to panic and remained calm. Freeway also closed and had to go home by backroads. ds and friend were at the house, and everything was clear last night but another fire started east of us which put us at risk, we had gone by the fire dept on way home which is near our house, and spoke with them. At that time there was no risk, but as I said... new fire during the night so husband woke me up and said we had to evacuate... called the fire dept and they said to get out within the half hour... air was thick with smoke and ash was falling so couldn't think very well forgot my computer! but got important papers and pictures... so we are our at son's friend's house. Sweet people! Just made piles of bacon and eggs and carne asada... travel day was brutal on my diet and stomache hurt so happy that able to eat right today so far...
feeling a little flat emotionally... in a daze. then tearful, then get busy and distracted. Feel hopeful our house will be okay as there is a fire dept between us and the fire and an evacuation zone between there where theere is a pen full of horses... but not letting anyone back in... it's just wait and see here. hot, dry and high winds...
thanks for your prayers. I'll check in and let you all know how it turns out. Apparently over 750 houses have burned in just this area alone. This is so surreal... bad memories from 2003. am thinking of going down to an evacuation center to volunteer as I am a nurse... but don't look like one right now and forgot my stethescope and nursey things... I volunteered last time. but don't want to be in the way either.

i live near the Eastlake Fires... We havnt been Evacuated yet... but i have a friend who lives in Rancho Bernardo who was Evacuated yesterday morning... her house IS still standing thank goodness! and hopefully she will be able to get back in it later on today... IM CHEERING FOR YOU!!! Good Luck!!!

Hi Promise! I saw those fires out my side of the plane last night!!! They looked huge and spread out over the hills.... my prayers are with you... where I live is narrow winding roads so we evacutated a little early to be saafe as last time apparently people were panicing and clogging the roadways... it was hard to get out. It's weird isn't it?

My inlaws live in Rancho Bernardo but they are on a cruise right now... but I think their house is okay.

This is a picture taken of the smoke from the local fire. It's burned 4 homes already and is racing through the canyon... My house is about 1/2 way from where this picture was taken and the fire.
This second one was taken from my bedroom window..
