This isn't a rave. If you work for Pampered Chef, my post may offend you, so you may wish to stop reading here, but I promise not to call you any derogatory names if you decide to keep reading and give me your opinion.

I despise opening the mail to find one of these invitations to a party where I'm expected to spend my hard earned money on overpriced "stuff" that I don't need or want. Why did I go, you may ask? Well...a friend of mine that I haven't seen in way too long invited me, and i didn't want to turn down her invitation for fear I may never hear from her again. Lame excuse, I know.

The "consultants" were an annoying mother daughter team. If I choose to go to these things, I save the drinking for later, as I'm bound to say something irritating to the consultant, and rather than make for an uncomfortable situation, I do my best to keep my lip zipped. Well, these ladies were gluttons for punishment. They went around the room asking each person attending which Pampered Chef items they have, and what do they love about them. When it was my turn and asked what do I own, I simply said "Mandoline Slicer". At this point, as far as I was concerned the conversation was over. No, they had to know what I love about it. To that I responded, "Nothing". Of course, they were shocked and abhored, and I had obviously been more insulting than anyone they had ever met. They had to keep pressing me for more information, so I finally said, "It's a dangerous piece of equipment, the food holder doesn't do a good job of holding the food, and I've actually grated pieces of flesh and plastic from the holder into my meals, which of course, I then had to throw away what I was preparing as my husband and i don't like to eat food with bits of flesh, blood and plastic in it". At this point they told me that I had the old model from 4 years ago, and that i need to buy the new one. OK, I'm really going to spend $65 to replace the crappy mandoline that some poor person had given me as a wedding present. Probably a re-gift because they knew how bad it was.

Anyway, because you can't go to these parties without buying something, I bought 3 bamboo spoons for $8.50. Hopefully they're not dangerous like the mandoline.

Anyway, anyone have any rants about parties similar to this?

    Hi, Miss Phode

I don't really have any rants to add. You just sound so much like me.

I can totally understand your angst with this situation. If they had a brain in their heads, they would have been able to gather from your "Nothing" answer, that it was time to move on to the next person.

    Some people are so dumb-a$$ed.

I have to laugh as I know in a few more days you might too ........... I hate these pressure sales type of parties and most often will tell whomever it is having one that I don't attend at home sale parties period. I know most of whats out there and can pick up a catalog if need be for product info then if I truely need something there is always a way to get it other then a party .........

Most of the plastic, candles, housewares, ect ........... I buy comes from Walmart or some other similar store. Way cheaper and I don't feel pressured to have a party to pressure my friends as well.

What's so funny to me is the oohing and ahhing over simple items like a salad spinner, which the demonstrator unintelligently told us she also uses to spin dry her lingerie. Then she wondered why no one would eat her salad. Has no one noticed all the gadgets and gizmo's they sell for kitchens? Nothing they sell at these parties is super profound.

Here we have candle parties for a company i think called Candlelight or something similar...luckily i had seen a catalogue before being invited to one..so i knew better, $25 for a votive holder i can get at the dollar store? I dont think so. A friend that has hosted parties in the past actually claims her 3 wick candle heats her entire 2 bedroom house and they don't have to turn the furnace on (ok..she's a bit of a nut to begin with LOL)...

I know what you guys mean. I get invited to these things over and over again. I mean at some point it's like, ok I know you sell this stuff so if I get a hankering to spend way too much money on something that I don't really need or want then I will give you a call. I think they same thing about the Schwan's guy around here. ( He sells frozen foods) I don't need 12 pounds of icecream for twice the cost I could pay at the grocery store.

                  MAN....

There are few things worse than a "soak your friends" party!!!

My neighbor across the street.. is representing a company that makes household decorations.. You know.. cutsie trash with silk flowers and kittens painted on them...
Stuff that I wouldn't allow in the house let alone pay money for.
Fortunately I had the perfect out.. I told her that We'd just gotten married and we were actively getting rid of stuff. Trying to incorporate two homes into one..

What I didn't tell her was that my tastes were much more to the modern lines. The last thing I wanted in my bathroom was a doll wearing a purple hoop shirt and bonnet that camouflages the extra toilet roll.. I prefer to keep it simple...I like Danish modern and CLEAN lines... No flowered pillows, no pink wall paper, no ruffled kitchen window coverings... basically I want NO FLUFF!!!

                  So, ya, I hear you!

                    Yikes---lingere in a salad spinner..... That's a first. lol.

I once got taken for $60 bucks for Mary Kay crapola. I was told that it was supposed to be a beauty routine that cleansed, exfoliated, etc. The only thing it did was dry out my skin and cause mass breakouts!

This made me laugh since I just went to my very first Pampered Chef party and they were oohing and ahhing over stupid things. I ended up buying the icecream scoop and the spatulas just to give the hostess some buying credits.
Everything is so overpriced. My sister in law booked off of this hostess so I will of course be attending hers but hopefully that will be it for me. Walmart's stuff is good enough for me!
