  • Beer Me!

Hey guys. I've been doing really well on atkins and I'm feeling the need for BEER! Is there any beer out there that is sort of ok? It's been a month since I've had any alcohol and I dont really care for vodka or gin which is carb free. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

            Re: Beer Me!

something I find really interesting, Canadian beer has 12g's of carbs and us beer has 7?

Was in buffalo last week and noticed that coors light there has 5g, i'm quite sure that here it's more like 10.

THough US beer is much waterier tasting than ours (and lower in alcohol)...i didn't realize the carb counts would be so different!!!

American beers are usually very anemic in comparison to other country's. I am not really surprised that there are fewer carbs. Figured Canada would be more alike, though, being so close by.

Beer, and interesting subject indeed LOL There are so many weird things about beer it 's unreal. I worked for Budweiser for 4 1/2 years and now have been at THE OTHER COMPANY LOL for 6 1/2 years and have learned so much.

Nope...it's very different than ours... making fun of American beer is an enjoyable passtime here LOL . My husband brought back a 30 pack of Coors light from the states and we can't seem get any of our friends (all Coors Light drinkers) to drink it..i think he's keeping it for the 'it's the end of the night and we've run out of beer' emergency stash

Was surprised by the carb counts though..i would have thought beer was beer in that respect.

                    Re: Beer Me!

American megaswill (Budmilloors) is pretty anemic and is produced for quick ice-cold mass consumption.

However, American craft beer is alive and well. Microbreweries and brewpubs here make wonderful lagers and ales that put the mainstream beer to shame, IMHO.

I will drink a microbrewed ale on the weekend, which has 13 carbs per bottle.

If I had an option to drink a light beer, I'd drink water instead.

so sounds like your microbrewerie beer is comparable to our mainstream beer, even in carb counts.

We too have microbreweries here as well that are quite popular now....but our budweiser, coors etc do (they're brewed here) really do taste quite different.
