  • Have you ever noticed...?

Have you guys ever noticed that there are a lot of people, members on this board, who never post? I will be reading a thread, and you can see at the bottom who's also viewing the thread. Often times there are guests there, but equally often there are members whose online tags I have absolutely never seen. I am not a terribly long time member, but I am on often enough to be familiar with a good number of folks - and have just never come across some of these people.

    Funny.

I was actually just thinking about this yesterday!

I know I read a lot of threads but don't reply... and some people are just shy...
I go to a few other boards I don't post in but I joined just so I can have privlages, like view pics and journals.
Also I know when I reply less when I'm not doing great but come here for motivation and information.

I think a few of us have been having a down couple of weeks. Totally bummed that my Atkins buddy here at work bailed. She's lost 40 pounds!! She wants to stop for the holidays and then get back on, which historically has worked oh-so-well for other folks on this board. (deep sigh).

What's up that you have been having a hard time lately?

        yes very!
I'm back between 195 and 200 and can't seem to go down at all! Starting Monday I'm going back to rung 1 so hopefully that will help.

I know what you mean about the co-worker. I gal here used to do Atkins but she's totally fallen off the wagon and is ALWAYS encouraging me to eat this or that. She's always saying "only 17 carbs in this, just have 1/2"... Of course I won't!

But it is nice to have a buddy!

          Re: Have you ever noticed...?

It really bummed me out. My weightloss is so slow (lost 10 quick on induction, and basically 3-4 since July) that her fast and obvious weightloss totally spurred me on and helped keep me motivated. She's still dieting (low calorie instead) and exericising (we walk or go to the gym 2-3 times weekly, so it's not as bad as it could be, but yes, it was nice to have a buddy.

I am starting to wonder if there is any truth to this stall thing. I didn't really believe in it before, because I couldn't see the chemical rationale for it, but maybe am stalling. Either that or I just have freakishly slow weight loss. I haven't cheated, but I am no longer as careful as I was. Have you read that "stepping back" thread?

I haven't read that thread, I'll have to check it out!

I bet your weight loss is slow because you don't have much to lose!! But if you keep at it it will happen.

I believe in the stall thing but seriously - somethings gotta give! LOL

I haven't been as careful as I should be either... I bet if we both jumped back in 100% we'd see some results!

Look up in the Owler's Stepping Back (under OWL forum). It's a pretty good idea. I think I may dig my book out (in a box in the attic if I didn't lend it to someone) and give it a peruse. I have started exercising more and have lost one additional pound, but it seems like I should be able to at least drop another 10 without doing something drastic. There are a couple of people here who have gotten quite slim. Can't I?

Yes you can!! ... but I think you're a hottie now, I'd love to be as slender as you now!!

I think if I picked up the exercise a bit I could probably keep eating this way and lose but I'm having trouble breaking out of this lazy phase! sigh...

What do you suppose is causing it? The change in season? Stress? General being-a-mother exhaustion?

                    Re: Have you ever noticed...?

I think the season!! They say it's 'natures way'... lol.

For me I think it's just work and stress. I already have to get up at 5:30 just to get to work on time, so exercising in the AM is doable but it's hard to get up!
Work is BORING so I snack more than I should. I have a boss who gets all pissy if I leave so walking or the gym would be ok 1-2 times a week but other than that I'll have to pay.
Don't get home until about 6:30, and by that time I don't want to exercise and I over eat. Not to mention trying to find time to spend with the family, cook, clean, etc! You know how it goes!!
                    It's an endless cycle!
And the weekends I'm just lazy and busy with household stuff.

LOL not sure i needed to go into all of that... hehe.

What do you think the problem is?

                      Re: Have you ever noticed...?

With you or with me, ha ha! It sounds like you have the completely normal hurdles to weightloss. Weightloss is a selfish process, and you have very very little time and energy left over for self. I am not sure what it takes to somehow make this one thing supercede everything else. Usually whatever it takes is bad - a wakeup call or somesuch, health deteriorating, and you are too young and healthy for that. Nor selfish enough to easily just say "screw 'em all, I am going to do this for me" and maintain that attitude. I think its' easy to have moments of self-focus and determination, but that requires so much energy!

I am not sure what my problem is. Some people say it is because I have too little left to lose (but I am so much higher than my normal weight that I have a hard time with that explanation). It might be stalls - which as I said, I didn't really believe in until I had some discussions with some folks on the board today who actually gave some logical rationales for stalls. I know I am not exercising enough, but I am working on that, and I know that I am not careful enough with calories or carbs, but not so bad that I should not be losing weight. Other people lose weight on a lot more than I am eating. I mostly live on meat and veg these days. I tried cutting out splenda with not much result, and I tried cutting out coffee with not much result.

I guess I am just baffled. I'd post menus, but they are so inconsistent that I am not ssure that they would offer a valid measure.

I am probably eating too much and exercising too little to lose the last bit of weight. Combination of all of the above?

You are so right Titan! (as alwasy! lol).
I was very much like that for the first year or so into my weight loss. I don't know what happend but I lost my momentum. Luckly I've been able to maintian (for the most part).

                        I think it's a combination of all!

I believe in the eat less than you burn idea. After the first 2 months or so on Atkins I had to start watching my calories... I know if I work my A$$ off and really watch what I eat I will lose. But what happens after that? We can't keep that up all the time. I can't anyway. That's why I've been yo-yoing with the same 10-15 lbs for almost a year!!

In the end I guess if we just stick with it, keep doing what we're doing with a little bit if tweaking in between we'll see results... eventually!
Not to mention follow the rules of Atkins! I know if I work out more, eat the right foods, and keep my calories below 1500 I'll drop, but it's SO hard to do that! I will do it for a few days and then POOF! I'll slip and then keep slipping...

                        It's a vicious endless cycle!

I often wonder why it seems I can't lose much either. Is it because of my age? I am 49 - will be 50 in January. I have been watching what I eat all summer, and exercising on a regular basis. I quit drinking beer and thought that the weight would just melt off because of that alone. But, I am stuck at about 162 lbs on a 5 ft 4 frame, and feel just miserable about it.

I am trying to change the way I'm doing things. For the last 5 days I am trying to be induction legal with no frills (no sugar-free pudding or whipped cream). I am going to up my legal veggies, and try to exercise even more.

The good news is, I am not gaining! But what I wouldn't give to weigh in at 144 lbs and be at the correct BMI number ---- let alone weight in at 135 lbs so that my drivers license weight would be correct for once. LOL.

That was an interesting read, funny how the subject completely changed from the first post!

I'm like yous, im struggling lately too, i agree you should go to the "stepping back" thread, its interesting to read peoples menu's AND peoples problems...

All my foods are turning on me lately and i just feel i dont have the time or energy to keep switching about... i know i need to exercise, but after working million hour days i cant find the time and if i can, i just dont feel like it... its gotta be the weather, i did great all through summer, now im just struggling... at least im not gaining, i guess thats a point.
