Has anyone ever been to either-

Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote or Fuerteventura?

Thinking of going there in Feb to get some sun. Wondered what everyone elses experiences were.

It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

I've been to Gran Canaria. About 20 years ago mind you. It's a gorgeous place, fabulous weather, beautiful beaches, lovely scenery.

      I hated it.

But don't let that put you off - I am typically Celtic, with pale very easily burned skin and a tendancy to heat stroke, so I basically had to be a vampire and only go out after dark. Plus I HATE lying around doing nothing. Not sure why I went really, was persuaded to go against my better judgement. It's the only sun/beach holiday I ever went on and will remain the only one.

            Re: Canary Islands

Just after Christmas. I thought it was very hot. Others with me thought the weather was perfect, so don't go by me, I really am not a sun person. I've been to Florida at the same time of year and thought it was perfect, but the locals were going around in coats.

I do know people who have gone to Gran Canaria in winter and had rain and dull weather, but it seems to be pretty much year round non-stop sun.

So clearly its going to be quite hot in Feb then? Sounds good.

                  Re: Canary Islands

From conversations I have been having this morning, it looks like Lanzarote or Gran Canaria are likely to be the favoured destinations.

                    Re: Canary Islands

I've been to Tenerife quite a few times, in and out of season - its really nice, my uncle lives out there Sept to May for the weather!! (and beer!! hehe) He rang Mum up only yesterday to say how hot it is!!

Anywhere is nicer than here Rich!!

It all depends on what you want! if you want nightlife - go with Tenerife - las americas - its not as "wild" out of season and good fun! There's some really nice restaurants by the Marina too, I remember having the biggest T-Bone steak I've ever had!! its was sooo nice!

We used to stay in a hotel called Hotel Gala - it was really nice!

                      Re: Canary Islands

Thanks for your input Jane. I got some brochures at lunchtime, but will not be booking anything up until a couple of weeks before I intend to go. Going to do what I did with Egypt earlier this year, hunt for a cheap cancellation.

Gran Canaria appears to be top of the list now!

                        Re: Canary Islands

I'm off to Lanzarote in January for some sun and R&R.
I love Lanzarote and Feurtaventura (these are the quieter of the islands).
I suppose it depends what you are looking for, but I dislike built up resorts with nightclubs and huge hotel complexes.
The weather in February should be good although it can be somewhat cool in the evenings

Ive been to all, tough choice on the favourite, probably Lanzarote, closely followed by Gran Canaria.
