Re: Locavore diet
Weird! and interesting. Living in Dallas, we have so many food 'plants' and farmed suburbs that I don't think I would miss out on very much...I'm going to research it and see. Thanks for giving me something to do!30/F/5'6"

Re: Locavore diet
we also wouldn't have any issue here as far as choice goes, actually there is a tv campaign here aimed at getting people to buy Ontario grown/raised products. i do try to buy local fruits and veggies and meat when i can, to support our farmers, though i'm not fanatical about it.
A good portion of what we get in the grocery store is local, with the exception of course of anything that will grow in warm climates only (espcically in the winter) like citrus, avocado, pineapple etc.Jen, 39, F

Re: Locavore diet
How local is "local"? Within the same city, or same state, or same region? I think I would be able to do it--we already eat "local" products. We buy our beef straight from the slaughterhouse, which is about a 15 minute drive from our house. Heck, the cows probably lived closer than that.
I buy organic eggs, cottage cheese, and sour cream from North Dakota. The cheese and butter I eat is made in Oregon. In the summer I buy produce and eggs from the Hutterites, and I also make it a point to buy Flathead cherries, which are grown in Montana. We also make it a point to drink beer and wine from Montana, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon.
If it were regional, I could do it. The 100-mile radius rule would have to be bent for Montana. I think we'd need a 400-mile radius rule.
