Have any of you seen the movie Fast Food Nation. There is a book also but I havent read it.

I would think that the movie with its graphic images would have more of an impact.

I think anyone that eats fast food should watch the movie.

The biggest point for fast food eaters is :
The meat that is used for hamburgers ( and I am sure for chicken nugets also ) is garbage ... basically they use all of the scrap from the meat to make the burgers. Also from the assembly line other undesirable materials make it into the burgers ( since it is ground up you cant notice ). Also the cows are for the most part tourtured as they are raised specifically for mass production.

I am a huge steak eater and even like hamburgers ... but not sure if I will ever step into a fast food establishment again.

I also dont like the way mcdonalds markets itself towards children ... I personally never feed nor allow my son to eat mcdonalds. I think that mcdonalds brainwashes kids into liking it ... then even into adulthood people thinks it tastes good ... it really does not taste good.

Some research has shown that the same food put into a mcdonalds wrapper will get better feedback from children. Like if you put a mcdonalds hamburger into its regular wrapping or in a plain white wrapper a child will almost always choose the mcdonalds one. This holds true for almost any food.

The movie is OK (it's much more palatable than the book) but the book is EXCELLENT. It's gritty and graphic, and completely accurate. The movie did not have that much of an impact on me--because it's "fictionalized" in a way.

The book was much more explicit and went into MUCH greater detail, and also went in-depth about things like artificial flavorings, the science of flavor, and what we'd call frankenfoods. The book also goes into the business aspect of fast food, which is horrifying in itself!

I haven't seen that specific movie but i did see 'supersize me' I know it was over the top...eating mcdonalds 3 meals a day. but what it did to his body even astounded the dr.s, they said it affected his liver like he was an alcoholic! It's not just Mcdonalds' either IMO, I think they've been singled out but they're all guilty of it...

One thing i hate it how mcdonalds pushes they're 'healthy choices' now...here they've almost tried to make it look like a health food restaurant in some of the advertising!

This is the ingredients in the grilled chicken breast from a Chicken McGrill, keep in mind this is just the chicken sans sauce, bun etc. )the bun ingredients list is just as long!)

Chicken meat, water, seasoning (salt, sugar, rice starch, hydrolyzed corn protein, spices, flavour {autolyzed yeast extract, salt, disodium inosinate and disodium guanylate}, dextrose, garlic powder, carrageenan, autolyzed yeast extract, chicken fat, dehydrated cooked chicken powder, silicon dioxide, caramel, onion powder, corn maltodextrin), modified rice starch, sodium phosphates. Cooked on a grill lightly seasoned with trans fat free cooking spray (Canola oil, water, salt, modified palm oil, whey powder, soy mono and diglycerides, potassium sorbate, citric acid, artificial flavour and colour (annatto, turmeric), vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E.)

I prefer the chicken that I make at home that just contains: chicken.

Oh I should also add this is the same chicken they put in their healthy choice grilled chicken cesars etc. blech!

That movie could have done soooo much more. It had such potential with it's cast and everything, but I didn't feel it impacted me THAT much.
I've read bits and pieces of the book and it is better.
