  • Argh! I'm so furious!!!

I went somewhere today and my oldest son was in pre-k. His teacher called here and I wasn't here so she called my mother. She wanted to know if my mom wanted to come and pick my son up because he had wet himself(my oldest son is autistic and special needs, hes only four years old). There was less than an hour left of school so my mom told her that by the time she got dressed and drove down there, the school bus would be there to bring him home and that there wasn't much sense in doing that, especially since the roads are icy. The teacher was supposed to have changed his pull-up since I send two with him every day. Well, the bus arrived and I went outside to get my son and the bus driver tells me that they had this whole situation at the school where the teacher didn't want to put my son on the bus because she said that my mother said that she would come and pick my son up and that my mom didn't show up. Then the bus driver said that the bus garage had called me to ask what to do and that my number was disconnected. She wanted to know if my phone got cut off and I told her no and gave her my number again. She said that was the number that they had called. Well, my phone line is working fine and oddly enough, I have two phones with caller ID and there is no calls from the bus garage. Just the one from the school. I don't understand why the teacher did that because I KNOW that my mom isn't in the habit of making up stuff or lying. What I'm really mad about is that my son's pull-up was FULL when he got home. The teacher did not change him at all at school and in my opinion that is just neglect and abuse. She made him sit in that full pull-up and wet pants for over an hour when she could've just changed his pull-up at school and made him more comfortable. He shouldn't even of been wet in the first place. Theres a reason why I send pull-ups with him to school and he only goes for half a day. Grr..I'm ready to go down there and kick some ...Until someone fom that school gives me some answers, my son is NOT going back.

I'm furious for all three of you.

Call the director of the preschool if you haven't already. I wouldn't even mess with this teacher right now. There is NO excuse for leaving that child wet. None. While you've got them on the phone, I'd make sure they have both of your phone numbers correct.

Then I'd call the bus company and make sure that all the phone numbers are updated.

    Poor kiddo. Poor mom.

I am. I'm mad for you!

      Re: Argh! I'm so furious!!!

It gets even better. I talked to someone about it and they had a chat with the teacher and then got back to me. They said that there must've been a misunderstanding because the teacher said that my mother told her that she was going to bring a clean pair of pants and bring my son home. I even called my mom again to confirm her story and my mom did not say that she was going to go down to the school at all. I don't see how what my mother said could've been misunderstood. I think shes trying to cover her rear for not changing my son and that just burns me up! Oh, and the teacher told them that the reason why she wasn't going to put my son on the bus was because the bus driver said that they weren't coming up this street where I live today because of the ice on the road. None of that makes any sense to me and that isn't what the bus driver herself told me either. The person that got back to me also said that pull-ups leak...well, he didn't have a leak, he had an overflow. They obviously aren't taking this too seriously. I don't think that I'm over reacting and I'm angry. Atleast nobody tried to say that he was changed or I probably would've lost it. Thanks for taking the time to read and reply Brook! I just need to get some of this off of my chest before I explode!!

I was a preschool director and teacher for many years. You need to document what has happened. Give it some time. Rethink things and make sure that your recollection of the day's events are accurate. Then, if you do not get a satisfactory resolution with the teacher, you need to go up the labour ladder - talk to the director/principal. Most preschools have governing boards. All preschools are accountable to a state licensing agency. Never forget that you are the parent and your main concern is your child and his welfare. This was neglect in my opinion and you have every right to be angry.

          Re: Argh! I'm so furious!!!

Well, I saved all of the emails and such regarding what has happened. I also talked more with the bus driver this morning. Appearantly it was both. The teacher didn't want to put my son on the bus because she said that my mom was supposed to pick him up and the superviser at the bus garage said that they didn't need to come up this street due to the ice on the road, but to let my son off at the beginning of the street. Things still aren't adding up. None of it excuses the fact that my son wasn't changed. I went over it with my mom several times to make sure I got all the facts from her end. I've thought it through and I really don't see how this "misunderstanding" occurred. I'm still waiting to talk with the teacher and to get an explaination. I mean, even if she believed that my mom was going to come and get my son, she should've still changed him in my opinion. The whole thing just makes me uneasy. My son can't talk very well and he can't tell me if something happens to him. I don't like the idea of letting him out of my sight and into the hands of people that I really don't trust. I suppose I'll discuss it with the teacher and then if I'm not satisfied, I'll ask for a meeting with the principal. Thanks for the advice Addict.

I think you should meet with the teacher & the principal together. Clearly the teacher has been trying to cover her ***. She clearly neglected your son in not changing his pull-up. I'm sure she did not take into consideration his feelings & physical discomfort.

              Hugs to both of you.
