    Re: Movie Reviews

Nice topic!! I love movies!! I'll start.

I just recently saw Ironman and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

I'm not going to give any spoilers away. I hate spoilers. My rating system will be = eh and = AWESOME!

    Ironman:
~ I thought this was a really good movie. It's totally family friendly in my opinion. There is some violence but it's not too bad. I liked how it was just a fun story and a fun way to tell a story. There weren't a lot of underlying political tones or anything like that. It's your good old fashioned action movie. It does have some love story but it was a sweet love story. There are a couple of iffy sexual related scenes at the beginning so it isn't really appropriate for young kids in my opinion.

    Indiana Jones:
~ I was pretty dissapointed with this movie. I'm a huge Indiana Jones fan. I was so looking forward to this movie. It wasn't believable to me. It was sillier than Temple of Doom, in my opinion. It has it's good acting, and great action parts but the overall movie was alright. Shia Labeoufe does an AWESOME acting job. That kid is going to go far! Overall it was worth the time and money in my opinion but I was a little dissapointed.

Great Idea! My bf and I have unlimited cards for our local cinema so we're there all the time! I'll stick with Irish Mom's rating system!

Some of the movies coming out here now will be old for people in the US but here are two of my favourites I've seen recently.

      Caramel:
Wonderful film about women in a beauty salon in Beirut. Not at all the kind of film you normally think of being set in Lebanon! It's about their lives and how they deal with things like aging and finding meaningful relationships. So good!

      Gone Baby Gone:
This one really stuck with me after I left the cinema! I just saw it a couple of days ago and I've been thinking about it since then! It asks some tough questions of the viewer and seeing it in the cinema I could see all the people around reacting in different ways but it seemed like every person had some kind of response to it. I thought it was very good!

Can't wait to see what other people liked and disliked!

        How about jumping stars?

No Country for Old Men - very true to the book, but i am a cormac mccarthy fan, so perhaps i am biased. but havier b. was excellent and so was tommy lee jones.
Into the Wild - not exactly true to the book, but super well done.

Sweeny Todd - this was excellent! i know i'm late to the party, but if you haven's seen it, rent it. i am guilty of watching any movie with johnny depp in it, but it really was good.

Today my daughters and I saw Indiana Jones and I was pleased. My daughters, ages 9 and 6, also liked it as well. Me lil girl started getting a tad bit restless, may be the length?? However my big girl said she thought it was awesome. Not as much action as previos Indy movies but for Harrison Ford, he's like 70 or something, I was impressed. Besides now they outta school and we get the matinee prices. God Bless, Joe

Need feedback on that kids kung fu movie. Now that me girls are out of school I'm looking for a plan on a rainy day. Is it a girlie movie or more for boys? Will I stay awake through it?? God Bless, Joe

irish mom - sweeny todd was a musical, but not entirely. there was non-singing dialog, too. i didn't see enchanted, so i can't compare.

i saw 2 movies over the weekend:

The Happening - omg, this was so stupid. the only reason i'm giving it 1 star is because i got to look at mark wahlberg for 2 hours. m. knight sham-a-lam-a-ding-dong movies get worse with each release.

There Will Be Blood - this was the best movie i've seen in 2008. rent it now. don't wait another minute. daniel day lewis is at his best in this film. for real.

i watched southland tales over the weekend. i can't even rate it. i mean, i get that it was a political commentary, and i got the references to the jane's addiction songs, but other than that...... i'm lost.

                    anyone else see it??

                      KUNG-FU PANDA (out of five)
My wife and I watched this one with our two sons (6 and 3) and we all walked away happy. My wife's only criticism was that there was too much dialogue and not enough action although I didn't have that opinion. I thought it was one of the better animated movies in recent memory and would consider buying it on DVD (which is always a good sign -- we only own about 15 movies).

Jack Black is fantastic as Po, following in the footsteps of Arnold Schwarzenegger, The Rock, and George Carlin by leaving the adult persona behind for a good kiddie movie.

As far as whether a girl would like it -- if she likes karate, animals, and a good laugh, I don't think you can go wrong. Of course now it has competition with WALL-E which our family will likely see sometime next weekend!
