So, I had my gallbladder surgery.

Now the doctors discovered a fatty liver. I am very scared and dont know if I can continue this diet eating high fat.

Soooo confused, depressed and feel defeated!

    Re: fatty liver

After reading your post, I scoured some of my favorite sources looking for info for you. I know that I've read a lot about how fatty liver disease is best treated with a low-carbohydrate diet. I had a friend who was diagnosed with NAFLD and possibly diabetes. I was sharing information with her about my WOE, but wanted to make sure I wasn't giving her bum advice. I emailed Dr. Michael Eades (co-author of Protein Power) and asked his opinion. He replied that a low-carbohydrate diet is indeed the best treatment. Here's an excerpt from one of Dr. Eades' blog about a study on it.

An interesting corroborating side note to this study is found in one of the references. I’m sure these findings were a big surprise to the researchers running the analysis of the data, so they did what all researchers do in the same situation: they looked in the medical literature to try to get a handle on the situation. One of their references is to a study done at Johns Hopkins published a couple of years ago in Digestive Diseases and Sciences. In this study researchers found that the fatty infiltration and inflammation of the livers of morbidly obese patients who underwent bariatric surgery correlated with carbohydrate intake.
There were no significant associations between either total caloric intake or protein intake and either steatosis, fibrosis, or inflammation. However, higher CHO [carbohydrate] intake was associated with significantly higher odds of inflammation, while higher fat intake was associated with significantly lower odds of inflammation. In conclusion, present dietary recommendations may worsen NAFLD [non-alcoholic fatty diver disease] histopathology.

My friend followed a low-carb diet for awhile and her fatty liver disappeared. It's a fairly common condition in overweight people and usually has no great effect on long-term health, so don't freak out. I also recently read a clever quip that really is so true: "Eating fat won't make you fat anymore than eating peaches will make you fuzzy!" Hope this helps!
