Gift suggestions for b-day dinner party

One of my old friends is celebrating her b-day with a dinner party. Since I haven't really talked to her in in about 2 years, until recently, I'm not sure what kind of gift to get her. Usually dinner party-I would take a bottle of wine, but birthday gift? I couldn't even afford a b-day gift for my sister this past summer, so I would feel kind of bad if I got one for her and not one for my own sis.

What should I do, I don't want to show up empty handed. Any suggestions?

Not sure what your asking? you can't get her a bottle of wine too? What about a gift card for a favourite store.

Sorry but i'm not sure what the issue is here..money? or just not sure what to get? you might have to be more specific.

now i'm thinking about it...really nice scented candle's/holders are always appreciated by women for any celebration, as are bath/spa type gifts.
