So, one of the first things I noticed was that I was tossing away a whole bunch of compostable (yard waste) items. So I bought a kitchen compost. It's a SUPER-CUTE little bucket that sits on the counter (I line mine with biodegradable bags). The whole bag can just be tied up and thrown in the yard waste bucket, reducing your garbage. It's got a carbon filter in the lid to make it odor-free (these are replaceable). There are several designs at different prices. I got the bucket and 75 bags for $35, including shipping from Home Naturals, Inc. (via Amazon). Here's a link to the Amazon search.

More cities are starting to provide pick-up for yard compostable yard waste, and the items that can go in them vary from city to city, but usually include egg shells, coffee filters and grounds, odds and ends from veggies.
