What books do you remember reading as a child? I remember the Five Little Peppers and How They Grew. I also read The Bobbsey Twins, Tom Swift, Nancy Drew, Trixie Beldon and the Hardy Boys. Remember Dr. Suess books, lots of them were read growing up. Along with the classic fairy tales.

Re: Books from childhood
My favorite book was called 'Snowball' and was the story of a white poodle who turned black. It was a flocked book and very delicate. I lost my copy on a trip but found another copy in mint condition a few years ago on abebooks and bought it.
If you are looking for old books, the search forum on abebooks is the place to find them!

Re: Books from childhood
The first time I couldn't stop reading a book it was a 'Mrs. Pigglewiggle book' but I don't remember which one. I was in 3rd grade. ha!
Green Eggs and Ham was also a favorite. I read it over and over and over...
Then I got into the series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. That was my favorite phase... and the series about the red headed orphan can't remember her name...?
I so miss reading to my kids. Why do they have to grow up?

Re: Books from childhood
Gosh, it's been so long....Dr. Suess, Dick and Jane, and Mr. Happy (any of the Mr. Happy books), and Sweet Valley High when I was finally allowed to read past my level.

Re: Books from childhood
Liz I think the red headed orphan was Pippi Longstockings.
My favorites were Nancy Drew & of course Little House On The Praire series. I read anything & everything that wasn't nailed down!!

Re: Books from childhood
I used to love Pippi Longstocking books!! Also, the worst witch books, peter and jane, charlie and the chocolate factory, james and the giant peach... ummm... I think they were my favourites.
I am now reading to my kids every day and they love:
Room on the broom, a pipkin of pepper, pumpkin soup, the hungry caterpillar, beatrix potter stories and their favourites are my husbands books that he read in childhood (picked up in Canada) The Bearnstein Bears - they love those - and so does my hubby!! My children just love their bedtime stories - I was shocked to hear how many parents do not read to their children....

Re: Books from childhood
We got a set f early readers and split them between six or our grandchildren last Christmas The kids and families love them. I am thinking I may get the set again and divide it differently this year so they each get a complete set. There were Dr. Suess books along with others for young readers. I am so happy the grands are enjoying them.velcrocat aka Ladyjean aka Lana has returned to the fold. Re: Books from childhood
I'm showing my age here, but my favorites were all the Grimm's Brothers Fairy Tales, Charlotte's Web, A Little Princess, Heidi, Little House on the Prairie... actually I devoured books from the time I could first read.
I have never read "My Side of the Mountain" but have read so much about it, I want to get it some day.
