Re: Problem with search engines today

Weird. I tried Google, Yahoo and MSN and they all work fine for me.

Re: Problem with search engines today

sounds like adware (different from a virus)

This is a good and safe free tool to download that can help with this

Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com

it's on cnet so it's a safe download (you can also read the reviews of it).

THis one is Microsoft's Windows Defender (also free)

Microsoft Windows Defender (64-bit) - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com

Maybe someone else here has some suggestions for adware removal tools?

I find I use these two, plus I run my Norton Scans and it seems to help.

I find the most frequent and annoying adware to be 'Ask.com', that one can be a pain to remove!

      Good luck!

Spybot - Search and Destroy is a good tool for getting rid of adware/malware/spyware.

Also, since you are bulletin board savvy, Google HiJackThis! and download that, remove all obvious malware/spyware, then send a "clean" HiJackthis! report to one of the free bulletin boards where they will analyze it.

Yes thanks guys. So after hours of searching and stuff I think I have figured it out. I had a Trojan on there Trojan Brisv.A that caused this kind of havoc and ended up getting a removal tool form Norton that specifically removed it. So hopefully after a day of that I am not hijacked anymore.

                Re: Problem with search engines-virus

My computer is ultra-protected, but last week I managed to let some serious adware/trojan through. TrendMicro grabbed it and I yanked the plug on my modem, but it still installed. I tried everything for almost a day, removed it every way possible (including Ad-Aware), but every time I re-booted, there it was again. It was like a reoccurring nightmare.

I was so tired from fighting it, I shut down my computer, slept on it and got up the next morning and did a system restore back three days. Problem solved. Wish I had thought of it the day before.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.
