It is true that the brain receives a good portion of it's fuel from glucose, but it does get a lot of its fuel from other places too.
What makes me question their study is they first say we're losing brain cells along with pounds, and then they say it's because we're not fueling our brains. They go on to say that memory improved when atkin dieters reintroduced carbs.
If they were killing brain cells their memory would not improve. Brain cells do not regrow, the damage would have been done. We'd also see Atkin dieters' memory continually declining, along with other things. Every day we kill dozens of brain cells and don't even notice. If their study proved we were killing enough to cause noticeable damage, you would probably see long-time atkin dieters suffering from a vegetative state.

According to their source they only used 19 people in their study. That's hardly enough to be considered a good testing group. There are way too many variables in people for this to even get a near grasp of what a diet does to someone.

Seriously whoever made that 'study' didn't do their research. The brain is mostly made out of fat, uses vitamins like B6 and other B vitamins to remain flexible - which largely come from red meats. If you look at the evolution of mankind we ate barely any Carbohydrates until about 2000 years ago.

Finally, what their study should have concluded was that "glucose or carbs may boost your memory."

But it's from the DailyMail... kings of spinning.

Well, obviously I think this "study" is a bunch of bunk!! BUT, if there's any truth to it at all, I certainly HOPE my brain cells weigh one pound each and I can manage to lose about 30 of them!!

In my profession, my brain is my tool, like a jewelry maker uses hands. I read constantly throughout the day, and am often thinking on my feet in a fast paced court environment.

I can absolutely say for me that since I've been on Atkins, my mind's been sharper, more focused, and I can concentrate for longer periods of time. Sure, my experience is anecdotal, but it's real. Small changes in my brain focus/power/concentration are noticeable for me since I'm on task 8-9 hours a day, so I'm pleasantly pleased/surprised at how Atkins has improved my brain processing.
