  • Health and safety - a good reason not to eat biscuits!

Aside from the refined carbs in biscuits, it appears they might be dangerous in terms of health and safety

This article is about the most dangerous biscuits and associatied injuries: Named: the UK's deadliest biscuit - , - Odd news stories, updates & weather - MSN News UK

Lol at people poking themselves in the eye with biscuits!

This is reassuring. In the UK I feel like a freak when the tea and biscuits come out and I don't partake. Is the same elsewhere?

Re: Health and safety - a good reason not to eat biscuits!

Accidents have included people poking themselves in the eye with a biscuit, falling off a chair while reaching for the tin, sustaining burns after dunking a biscuit in scalding tea, and being hit by fragments flying through the air.

Other people have reported choking on crumbs and damaging a tooth or filling on a particularly hard biscuit. One unlucky person ended up stuck in wet concrete after wading in to pick up a stray biscuit.
Falling off the chair, sustaining burns, choking or damaging a tooth I can understand... But how on earth do you poke yourself in the eye with a biscuit???

And... "fragments flying through the air"?

Haha! Yeah, that's what I thought. It would have to be a pretty nice biscuit - like a massive triple choc cookie with hazelnuts for me to wade into concrete!

I think I would do it for a custard cream!!! Boy, those are good. That article was hilarious!

We don't have much of a tea time here in the States (too bad...it's a nice tradition) but there is a fancy inn here in Chatham that has afternoon tea at 4 pm. It's pretty much a Full Tea with savories, scones and pastries. A lot of it is the traditional fare but with all the attention to diet these days, they now offer even some low-carb goodies like cuke slices with chive cream cheese, smoked salmon/cream cheese pinwheels, pecan halves with a berry Devonshire cream dollop, egg salad in cute little pepper "boats," chopped radish/poppy seed/cream cheese mixture in little baby arugula (rocket) wraps, etc. And they even have decaf versions of a lot of the teas including my beloved Darjeeling.
