I haven't seen it yet, but want to!
A friend of mine that has seen it (I told her not to tell me too much) said that Meryl Streep is so good you forget she's not Julia Child!
I finally watched this film yesterday. It was wonderful! Meryl Streep's Julia was amazing to watch with that unique voice and she even had her body movements down pat.
I would suggest not watching this movie if hungry with all the food scenes but hey, we can have a lot of Julia's recipes. You know...the ones with butter!!!
Even more delightful than the movie was all the special features. I learned a lot about Julia Child and was reminded about some things that slipped by over time. For instance, I had forgotten that she did a lot of work with Jacques Pepin.
I love the movie. For Christmas I got it on DVD. I also got the cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking. There are so many recipes that I want to try.
A couple years ago, when I was starting to eat more fat in my diet, I bought her videos on DVD. They were wonderful because I really had no idea how to cook. I also bought Mastering the Art of French Cooking 1 & 2, and they are my favorite cookbooks. There is no beating her roast chicken, and I never had a turnip I liked until I made the duck with turnips. Turnips are just so much better soaked in duck fat!
Anyway, I also found Jacques Pepin's Fast Food My Way series on DVD, and bought that. I've been watching those intermittently (whereas Julia's was a marathon viewing session over days). Right now my PBS station is broadcasting Julia & Jacques Cooking at Home, so I am recording those. Great cooking motivation! I just watched the salad episode yesterday and am so excited to make some yummy salads.
Saw it and really enjoyed it - Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci were excellent. Even Mr. Shrew enjoyed it...enough to go buy one of the movie tie-in books with selected recipes from the original MtAoFC.
