19 here too. My forecast says 3-7 inches tonight. Guess it was bound to happen. My plowing bill for this winter has been nice so far.

The sky had that gray look all day long~~that snow storm look. I was shocked we didn't have a storm. I have a feeling we are going to have a snowy week Jane. My DH will be happy as he will finally be able to ride his beloved snowmobile!

My older son is supposed to arrive home Tues night from sunny Calif, right in the middle of the "expected" storm, and he is flying into the small airport, Midway, not O'Hare.

Who knows if there will be delays or cancellations???

Been hearing about all the bad weather on the East Coast... it's even hit the news in Europe! Stay warm folks!

Here we have a few days of perishing cold and sun, then a few days of dreary rain and damp chill, then back to sun. Seems to be alternating so far this year. Temps between +4° and -4° centigrade. I prefer the colder but sunnier days.

Weather Alert-----

An area winter storm warning has been issued for late Monday through early Wednesday with up to 12 inches of snow expected to blanket the area, according to the National Weather Service.
The warning takes effect at 9 p.m. and will continue until 4 a.m. Wednesday. The heaviest snowfall is expected Tuesday afternoon and early evening. Blowing and drifting snow with near blizzard conditions in open areas can be expected Tuesday night, the weather service said. Both surface and air traffic are expected to encounter severe difficulties.


By Tuesday night, snowfall will generally be in the 6- to 12-inch range, with some locally higher totals possible, especially near Lake Michigan in both Illinois and Northwest Indiana, the weather service said.

Travel is expected to become difficult by late tonight. Both morning and evening rush hours Tuesday are likely to suffer.

In addition to the falling snow, northwest winds will increase to 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph Tuesday night and into early Wednesday morning. This will result in severe blowing and drifting snow in open areas.

The potential exists for ground blizzard and near white-out conditions to develop in outlying areas late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. The blowing and drifting snow will make it difficult for road crews to keep highways clear of snow. Significant delays are expected for both arriving and departing flights at O'Hare International and Midway airports. Flight cancellations are also likely, the weather service said.



I am probably sort of one of those outlying area locations....

Our older son is due in to Midway from Calif Tues nite at the peak of the storm!!!

Snowing in Rome which is only 125 kms away.... usually it's colder where we are, but so far have escaped the snow... it's coming though, I think. Not likely to be as dramatic as what some places in the US are having though.

Oh believe me, I can live very happily without the snow!!
You're right about it having been (and still being) a challenging winter for you all in the States. Been an unusually cold year here too, contrary to all longterm forecasts. Have to say, I'm longing for spring.

It's actually a beautiful sunny day here in the midwest US - but still pretty cold. I noticed the cats are enjoying the sunshine!

Dang I wish you could send some of that snow over here...

We need it so bad and for some reason the storms keep blowing by us. The snow is gone, the ground is dried up, the sun is up, and at noon it's 46 degrees.
