Are curvy models a contrivance? - Telegraph

The expectation that mature males and females should both look like a very slim 15 year old boy has done great harm.

Should we see more curvy females and men with strong torsos on the catwalk?

The fashions of the 1940s for both men and women were a lot more realistic about average and appropriate body shape.

    Re: Plus size models

There have been a number of articles about this sort of shift in size acceptance for models. I think it is a good thing, though often what is meant by plus size is still what I would call tiny!

I personally love the curvier 1940s look. I think men are under pressure to be too buff from advertising. Male fashion models tend to be skinny though - I think most guys are neither of those but still look good.

      Re: Plus size models

I love the curvy look!! ... but I also like the thin look.. lol

I always thought being a plus size model would be fun... but looking at some of the girls in the magazines (like Lane Bryant) - they're really not that 'plus size' at all.

They see a regular size woman as 'plus size'... something is definitely wrong with that!!
      We should all rebel.
maybe we should quit buying clothes.

We'll just walk around in moo moo's.

          Yeah, too fat, disgusting! *sarcasm*

She looks normal-weight to me... It is crazy that the ideal is to be anorexic. Well, we all wanna lose weight in this forum but one should not overdo it, of course...

And what would "thin talk" be without Victoria Beckham?

In the left is a pic of her from her Spice Girls times, from the 1990's. The right pic is more recent. I think that she was quite thin enough in the 1990's... No need to lose weight, not her!

Her height and muscles will take her into "plus" sizing.

But it's a bit like adverts for products like walk-in baths for the elderly. They are shown with a white haired lady in her 50s who is obviously able bodied and doesn't need the product!

In this example the model doesn't even look 50!

                  Re: Plus size models

I was a regular and plus size model. My stats for regular modeling were 6ft 129lb. plus size was 6 ft 160 pds. Come on! It has been twelve years since I left the industry and let me tell you that The women I look to for the most beauty are confident women. Its how you hold yourself and pride in your accomplishment that make you beautiful. I truely believe that the modeling industry has forsaken our youth with an untangible image, of hungry sad girls and boys. Now the irony is I am on this forum trying to be healthy for my daughter. I hope someday she can be someones role model and not cover girl.

                      Re: Plus size models

IDK for modeling thin models are fine I guess. I think the problem comes in when people think that they have to look like that irl.

To me, being thinner is just more comfortable physically. You can actually forget about your physical self and get on with things.
