If anyone is interested---

A friend of mine was badly injured in an accident last week. A semi truck was passing my friend in the opposite direction.
A large sheet of frozen snow and ice from on top the semi truck hit the bottom of the viaduct. The huge piece of ice flew through the air and crashed through my friend's windshield. It was all over the papers and TV here last week in the Chicago area.

He will be featured on the program "Inside Edition". I believe he will be on tomorrow, Monday Jan 11---Inside Edition on ABC Network. 3:00pm in the Chicago area, not sure anywhere else.

He is currently doing pretty good, but it is still unknown if he will ever be able to see through his left eye again. He is lucky to have survived this, considering the circumstances.

I've seen large sheets of ice fly off of transports too. But i wonder, how do you clean off the top of one?

I have a Jeep wrangler and last year, Cleaned off the entire car including the top/roof. Not realizing, because the removable roof is not insulated, when it snows etc and my heat is on inside, it melts the snow on the roof, and the frigid air turns it to ice...when i'm 'cleaning' the top of my jeep (it's been raised i cannot see the roof even standing on my sidestep), i'm not necessarily getting this ice off, only the loose snow.

I was driving down a main road and in my rearview watched a sheet of ice the size of the roof, fly off of my own car and shatter on the roadway right in front of the car behind me. Thankfully he was far enough away it didn't cause any problems..but really scared me and i'm sure him!

I now punch my roof from the inside to break up/loosen the ice before i clean off my car to break it up..not the most pleasant thing to do to be honest, but i'm not sure how else to handle this?

What is it they recommend to avoid this? especially in transports?

Hope your friend has a full recovery and regains his sight...it must have been terrifying!

mission - that sounds horrible. We had a chunk fall off in front of us yesterday, and I thought how that could actually hurt someone. I'll try to catch it. Best wishes to your friend.
