I watched the first two episodes of this show tonight and WOW! I absolutely loved it.
In 2004, motivated by the poor state of meals in UK schools, Jamie embarked on an ambitious venture to educate and motivate others into eating healthy, nutritious lunches rather than processed foods. He launched a national campaign and an online petition for better dining. Jamie took the petition to 10 Downing Street and the British government pledged an extra £280 million to improve the standard of school meals.
Now the British chef is trying to do the same with the school meals in the U.S. starting with the unhealthiest city in the U.S., Huntington, W. Virginia. Fighting the system which REQUIRES serving two breads per meal and processed food rather than fresh is very difficult. I was amazed how the children in the elementary school did not know what any vegetable was nor did they know how to eat with utensils (they are not provided with eating utensils in school and almost none of the students knew how to eat with a knife and fork!
).
I will be very interested to see future episodes and really hope that others in the U.S. viewing audience will watch it and maybe...just maybe start to think about eating better foods.
Here is the viral video about Jaime's Food Revolution. Also worth viewing is his prestigious TED prize speech video on the same page.
Jaime Oliver's Food Revolution can be seen on ABC-TV and online.

Mom cooked whatever meal and we ate it. I guess I always loved veggies though...my parents told me that my favorite food as a baby was spinach. Ewww...ever seen that in those little jars?
Gee, that was a short season; I was hoping it would last longer I guess.
