  • I hate the couple of days before shopping....

because I'm all out of all the good stuff and it takes more thought to pull together a good menu. I don't crave for anything off plan, but more, I crave to have my fridge full with all my regular food!

Off to make something out of almost nothing!

When I run out of stuff theres usually at least some eggs in the fridge because I bring a tray of 24 so scrambled eggs are easy and tasty.

I had lots of veggies left, so I had a cucumber and some ranch for lunch. Then I took off to the store and got us some steak!

What does everyone else do so that they don't run out of food before shopping day?

I usually fill the freezer up with chicken niblets, thighs, wings, legs etc so i know I have meat supply.I bring frozen vegies like brussul sprouts, cauliflour etc so they are stocked in the freezer.I always over stock my Atkins friendly foods but if I run out of something like say cheese before shopping day then when I drop the kids off at school I'll get some from the supermarket which is on the way so theres never a problem!

Yep--I usually do a lot of going to the store during the week when I take my son to school and pick him up--it's very convenient. I don't go on Mondays, though, and he didn't go to school today so I was thinking--man, what am I gonna eat?

Thankfully I've done a great job shopping over the past few weeks so I did have cheese and veggies. It was meat I was wanting. Dealt with that today--it's steak night! Woo!

Re: I hate the couple of days before shopping....

I've been having great luck lately picking up fresh veggies at Sam's Club. I buy romaine hearts there, and uncut, they last 7-8 days in my fridge. The campari tomatoes I buy there last just as long on my counter. I won't buy raw snow peas anywhere else because they seem rotten in comparison.

I tend to overbuy a little. I'd rather shop on my own terms than go out of necessity, if that makes any sense. I would rather have ingredients that need to be used up vs. running out. Plus, it gives me an excuse to sit down with a cup of hot tea and browse recipes

I hate running out of eggs. Last week I bought 3 dozen and if it doesn't look like I am going to use them up before I am comfortable doing so, I'll find a recipe to use them up. There's a yellow cake recipe on allrecipes.com that starts with 8 eggs that my family likes, for example. Or, I could make oopsies and freeze them. If I liked egg salad or hard-boiled eggs, I'd probably do some of that too!

I also like to just throw a bunch of cold stuff on a plate for dinner some nights. One night last week, my husband and I had sharp cheddar, brie, pepperoni slices, deli ham slices, pickles, olives, fresh warm flax bread, raw broccoli, snow peas, and he had a few wheat crackers, sliced apple and carrots. All this went great with a nice crisp semi-dry wine. It sounds like a lot of food, but it's really just a tiny amount of everything and more filling than you'd think!

Sometimes these meals thrown together while putting off shopping are similar to those days before going to the laundromat (I don't miss those days) where you have to put on those nasty ole granny panties, the pilled up sweats with the hole in the knee and that one stupid shirt from the back of your closet that is cut so poorly it just never fit quite right.
Mini Goals (in no particular order):
Mini Goal #1: Fit back into "Fat Jeans" - MET 3/25/10!
            Mini Goal #2: 225
            Mini Goal #3: 210
            Mini Goal #4: 199
Mini Goal #5: Remove wedding ring for repair (Happily Married!)

              I know, right, Marla?

Thankfully I tend to overbuy too. I think I just FEEL like there is nothing in the house because I have fewer choices!

Great ideas, btw on using up what we have leftover when we overbuy. I have a definite problem with that!

Even on Atkins there are days where you just keep going back to the fridge hungry but walk away with nothing, only to do it again in half an hour!
