    It came with the house





    The house my wife inherited from her Aunt. My Brother-in-Law has claimed the gramophone as he had a soft spot for the Uncle who owned it.

    I have only known the instrument used as a cabinet to keep the table cloths in - that was it's only use for at least 30 years!

      If I were you I would be whipping out all of your old vinyl and putting that precious piece to some good solid use!!!!

        But it only plays 78s - shellac not vinyl.

        I haven't had any LPs for 25 years, nor a turntable to play them on. I don't even use a CD player these days - all ripped to my hard drive and I strean to a Squeezebox.

        I also have a Pye Black both owned by the same Uncle who died 40 years ago.

              Yep. There are a few 78s in the cabinet, and I guess I might find a few more if I went hunting junk shops.

              The Pye Black box was a top of the range record player in its day and if I changed the cartridge it would play stereo LPs in mono. It still works.

              I have the room so I won't be rid of either in a hurry.

                    My parents still have some of their vintage teak from 1969 when they got married! Can't really refinish it but they are holding on to it for their cottage! lol i like it!

                      Sadly this house in Nicosia was built just a few years too late to be Art Deco, though the style lasted a bit longer here, but I have a few pieces with the flavour. Sadly the local carpenters, though skilled had no decent wood immediately after World War II, so there is nothing great.
