Dell Latitude - hands down. (for a WinTel based laptop)

Apple iBook or PowerBook if you want the ultimate experience!

Yup i'm with perry, I've got both a dell latitude and IBM thinkpad. I've had my dell 2 yrs and it's taken alot of use and abuse without any problems at all, the Thinkpad however has had the fan go, the hard drive, the battery and the power supply.

My PC is a Dell as well, and i've had no problems with it. my last was a compaq and it was pretty good too.

For laptops I would def go with a dell laptop. The price range is pretty big depending on what you want it for, but if your mostly going to be doing school work on it you should be able to get a really good deal.

I have a Dell latitude and while the display is good and themultimedia part works fine, I'd rather have boughtsomething else, but it wasn't me to make the choice -w as part of my salary from the now-gone job. try the keyboard before you buy a laptop, if you can. The 'H' on the Dell keeps popping out and it's rather annoying if you have to type a lot. Another thing to consider is the weight and the battery time. If you can handle the smallish display I would go for some kind of subnotebook, these are far lighter so not that much heavy load to carry (the latitude weighs a whopping 3 kg). Sony makes a really sleek one with a 10.6 inch display and something like 5 hrs uptime. There are other subnotebooks, too...
