    Help!

OK, my MIL is having problems with her computer. Which translates to.... I can't fix it!!
She is running Windows XP, it's a Dell computer. When you turn it on the Windows screen comes up but then it goes to checkdisk. It says her disk is dirty (?). Runs through the whole check, then keeps restarting checkdisk. Never starts windows up!
Any ideas? I ran some diagnostics and it comes up with
    Memory Data
    data bus stress test failure
    system memory failure

Suspected memory component located on system board @ label Dimm_1

    Re: Help!

Sounds like there is a problem with one of the RAM modules that you have installed. If you have another computer with compatible RAM, you might swap it out and see if the fixes the problem. Otherwise, you will probably have to buy some. If you choose to go buy some RAM, I would advise staying away from the cheap "value" RAM and go with something like Kingston. It will save you money and headaches in the long run.

      Re: Help!

I was thinking that might be the problem. Thanks for the reply. My other computer is not compatible. Hmmm. This one should be though! Good thought! I'll give it a try! I didn't want to run out and buy any for her if that was not the problem.
Thanks again! I'll let ya know!

Take out the bad SIMM. If it has 2 it will still run until you get a replacement.

Sorry. DIMM, in your case. Memory chip.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
It was the memory after all! NOW I am really ticked off because she took it to a repair shop and paid them $50, (I told them the same thing I told you guys) they got it to boot up, but when she got it home it still kept doing the checkdisk. Good idea on swapping out my memory with hers. I couldn't do that when I was working on it at her place!
Woohooo! Thanks for making MIL happy. Cuz you know..... when MIL is not happy.......
