    pc jams every time I try to open wmv?

    Every time I try to open a .wmv file, windows media will begin to open, then my entire pc will jam, and I have to do the Ctrl-Alt-Delete thing.
    It drives me insane... EVERY time... any idea of what may be causing this and what i can do about it? This computer is relatively new, I purchased it in September. Also, I keep getting these "window messenger" messages that say I have an error in System32 and must go to a website to fix it... I figure its spyware, but it wont go away even after I run a scan.
    I appreciate any advice that could be offered.

      As to the messages you are getting about that file, are you running windows XP? The messenger system in windows XP can be used to send you spam, which is most likely what is happening to you. This will not show up as spy ware or a bot or anything like that as it is a part of windows xp.

      Go here http://www.pchell.com/support/ipmessaging.shtml for instructions on how to disable windows xp messaging, after that, the pop ups should stop.

        Fantastic... Thanks guys!!! I will definately go in and disable that messenger...it is REALLY annoying...

        I'm not sure how I will re-install windows media... just because it was installed @ the store for me, so I dont have the disk.. the programs were already all built on for me. Can I download media anywhere?

          You could try updating online from microsoft - just type microsoft update on any search engine and it should be the first link that pop up. Definitely run your virus scan and anti spyware. My favorite to use is Microsoft Anti Spy. This can be downloaded from their website. This will usually catch anything that Norton, McAffee or AVG don't pick up. However, honestly it sounds like you need to reload Windows, but as I said, the updates might help fix this error.

            Windows Media Player link. Look for your version or download v10.
