  • Java script problem

I have a problem with my computer. Every time I try to open a link that opens a new pop-up window, nothing happens. If I right click on it and click "open in new window", I get an error page.

When I click on the calculators on mybeachbody.com for example, at the bottom of my screen just above the start button for Windows, I see

javascript:OpenWindow (and then whatever website I'm on is listed)

    but then nothing happens.

I've downloaded the latest from java.

I don't know what else to do and I'm getting frustrated with it .

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance.

First, make sure Javascript is enabled in your browser. Assuming you use Internet Explorer...

If you are sure that you have java, try holding down the Control key while you click on the link that won't open a new window. If it comes up while you hold the control key and click... it's a pop up blocker. We had problems with that at work, had to change some settings. If it does come up after trying that, what version of windows do you have?

        Thank you for your responses.

Perry, I have Java enabled, double checked it with the steps listed on the link you provided and still nothing. Still get the message that "The page cannot be displayed"

Jasmain, I held down the ctrl key down and still nothing...right clicked on it while holding down the ctrl key and got the same message, "The page cannot be displayed"

I'm very frustrated, but thanks again for trying to help.

Do you have the correct version of java for your windows version? You might want to uninstall and reinstall your java client.

I believe I do. I just downloaded a new version of Java to see if that would help. I'm very frustrated with this. I know some computer techs at school, if all else fails, maybe I can bring the computer with me to work and have one of them take a look at it.

            Thanks for trying to help.

              Re: Java script problem

JavaScript has very little to do with Java. They are two very different programming languages so downloading the latest version of Java would be like replacing your car's battery to fix a flat tire.

The problem is really bad programming on the part of the web developer and there's no way around it. What the programmer is doing is calling a Javascript function by replacing a link with a function call. The ideal way is to call the function through an attribute that activates when the link is clicked.

I'm betting the web developer used MS FrontPage instead of Dreamweaver or some other Web authoring program.
