Wireless revisited

We were gifted with a lap top last night. I want to do wireless internet for now then later network.
the laptop has
Broadcom 802,11b WLAN
and
Realtek RTL 81391810x Family fast Ethernet NIC

Can I just go byt the wireless router (where wally world Radio Shack?)
Plug it in and thats it?
What kind should I get?

Yep. The broadband modem will just plug into the wireless router instead of your PC.

Linksys, Belkin, any top brand will do. Circuit City, Best Buy, Wally World.

I have found them from 69-149 what should I look for in a model. I dont mind paying more but dont want to pay 149 when say 69 will do.

Wall jack <===> broadband modem <===> router <===> desktop

And the laptop anywhere in the vicinity.

Do yourself a favor and look into securing your wireless network, if you don't there is a potential to have serious security problems. Mac filtering, and something like WEP should do, and it's also a good idea not to broadcast your SSID name. Read the manual or post here if you have any questions, but please do it!!

I can't tell you how many people don't do it and give thier bandwidth away to others unknowingly for free. If they do something illegal using your access point, you could be liable.
