  • Laptop TV viewing anyone?

It wouls seem my new laptop can view tv but needs a tuner. When I go to the microsoft marketplace as recomended by my pc they have lots of types, it would seem both hardware and software. Does anyone do it? Is it fun? Should I even bother? What type?

It you have Vista I'm thinking you have 2gigs of RAM, and a much larger hard drive? If you go to Windows Explorer, you can right click on your c: d: drives and go to 'properties' and you will see the harddrive size as well as what's available and what's used (this is in XP i assume it's the same as Vista?)

I don't have one on my laptop but do on my home pc and I love it! I watch tv while i surf the net.

The dongle need to be plugged into your cable as well ..so keep in mind on a laptop while watching tv you'd then be 'wired'...and need access to a cable outlet.

Like a pvr it also has pause, stop rewind capabilities as well and comes with a remote. I have a flatscreen 20" monitor so it's basically just like a flatscreen tv. Another cool feature is if you leave the room, and lock your pc or put it in sleep mode, the tv pauses, and continues where you left off when you log back in. With a dvd/cd burner and program you can also transfer shows to dvd/vcd.

        Hope this helps.

Basically any laptop or desktop computer can help allow you to watch Tv/record tv.

Traditionally you'll simply need a "usb tv tuner" Its a very simple stick with 2 ends. 1 is for the coaxial and the second is a usb plug that plugs into any usb port on your laptop. This plus the tuner's software allows viewing etc.

My experience with tuners is the software can be somewhat glitchy.
I bought a Pinnacle usb tv tuner for 40 bucks on Craigslist. It even came with a silly little remote to change chanels from across the room.

I've been watching tv on my computer for the last 10 years on and off. Its ok but now I just have 2 tv flatscreens side by side.
