Hi Dreaming,
What program did you down load?
Try doing an uninstall on the program. Run your spyware detection software, you may have a lot of spyware and adware in your computer that can wreck absolute havoc. If you don't have a spyware program there's an excellent one you can download called "spy-bot" it's free ware and really very excellent. Down load it and run it. You can DL it from Cnet and many other places.
Do you have tech support? if you do call them. If not your computer manufacturer probably has a "pay per event" service, it might be worth it. Give them a call or check their website.
If it's your graphics card it make have come a little loose and just needs to be snapped back down into place. If the graphics card is corrupted. Having it replaced isn't difficult.
Let me know how you make out, Good luck!

Hi Dreaming,
Formatting your c drive wouldn't necessarily rid you of Spyware. I was thinking what you might want to do is a complete system restore, I know it's a pain but it will wipe your entire computer clean and reinstall all the programs and drivers.
If you haven't backed up important files you'll lose them, but it's worth a shot.
If you have system restore, you can go back in time - virtually before the problem started. Below are instructions on how to do it, it's easy.
About your graphics card, because it's integrated on your mother board don't go near it and let Gateway take care of it. In the mean time it cant hurt to follow the directions below and see if that resolves the problem. If it doesn't then I would do a complete restore, make sure you have you Gateway System Restore Disk!...just follow the prompts and it can take quite a while.
If these solutions don't work, have Gateway repair it for you.
To create a Restore Point
- Access the System Restore Wizard through Help or Support Center.
Click Create a restore point, and then click Next.
In the Restore point description box, type a name to identify this restore point. System Restore automatically adds to this name the date and time that this Restore Point is created.
To finish creating this restore point, click Create.
To cancel restore point creation and return to the Welcome to System Restore screen, click Back.
To cancel restore point creation and exit the System Restore Wizard, click Cancel.
To access the System Restore Wizard, click Start, and then click Help or Support. Click Performance / Maintenance, click System Restore to undo changes, and then click Run the System Restore Wizard.
Creating a restore point can be useful any time you anticipate making changes to your computer that are risky or might make your computer unstable.
To view or to return to this restore point, from the Welcome to System Restore screen of the System Restore Wizard select Restore my computer to an earlier time.
Then select the date when the restore point was created from the calendar in the Select a Restore Point screen. All of the restore points that were created on the selected date are listed by name in the list box to the right of the calendar.

Hi Dreaming! :wave
Sorry I couldn't have been of more help, I know what it's like to have major computer problems. I see you might choose between Dell and Gateway?
I had been a long time Gateway Fan and have owned two of them, my last one was the G-6..I spent a very long time comparing the two and ended up choosing Dell. If you notice Gateway seems to be more in the Plasma TV business than the computer business. Not that that's so terrible but you can't build by your own specs anymore, computers are pre made and stored until they sell, Of course you can still add upgrades.
To Dells credit they still manufacture one at a time and their tech support is second only to Apple. After owning my Dell for 6 months now I can tell you the tech support is great, I have had no major problems. After about a week of having my computer I noticed there was a problem with my monitor, I called and was sent a brand new one within two days.
Plus they have a lot of nifty value added features Gateways don't -- so Dell gets my vote as the most PC you can get for your money. I'm glad your still up and running!
