Research on Atkins & Kidney Damage

It looks like the Canadians are about to undertake a research project to see the effects the Atkins diet has on our kidneys. The study will begin this summer and they will be using "pigs" as the test subjects. Seems that pigs have a similar kidney function to humans.

Excuse me, but I don't think it is a good idea to feed pigs MEAT
but I sure like to eat them...... especially in a pit hawaiian style.

And another thing...

For me to have, at my size and sex, a proper amount of protein I have to eat the equvilent of a whole chicken a day. I find it rather hard to get to the levels that Tommy recommends based on his research.

The article says Canuks get about 15% P. In a 2500 Cal diet that is 94g. (Or if you will, 3 Large Eggs OR 5 pieces of broiled chicken)

The article goes on further to state that Atkins followers CAN reach 35%.
(That would be a three egg omlette and a whole chicken. WELL more than I can eat)

It should also be noted that both countries say up to 35% is fine.

And finally, Atkins is very clear about keeping the protein down to avoid exessive gluconeogenisis.

the article doesn't say that the pigs will be fed the way DANDR directs us. If they're only doing the protein part of the diet, how do they know how the kidneys respond to Atkins when done correctly? I thought that was the whole idea behind this WOE...
