if you notice on the side bar there is links to ones such as "obese men have lower IQs" and "linked to dementia"

i think they are trying to scare people into being stick then, no wonder people are so friggen fat! we yo-yo our way into trying to be like the super models (who, trust me, i much lower IQ's than my husband, and MUCH less brain tissue than me!)

This is terrible to read because it is a news story based on a research article that the journalist probably did not understand. For example, what types of educational level/jobs did these women have? Did they have adequate nutrition in their formative years (being fat just means you eat; it doesn't mean you get the right food for your development. Also, was there a blind study of healthy weight women? These are all questions that the author failed to answer. As a college professor, I can assure you that my brain is fine whether it is housed in a tubby bubble or not. Good grief!

I cannot say whether I believe it or not. Although I have to say that it would not suprise me. Obesity is a very serious health problem and is related to many other health issues. I suppose I would have to read the actual research study. Generally in any good research study they would control for factors such as education, demographics, ethnicity, etc. But we'll never know unless we read the actual study. The relationship between variables does not necessarily indicate causality. In other words, just because there is a relationship between brain tissue loss and obesity, it does not mean that obesity necessarily causes brain tissue loss. There may be other factors involved.
