    ANSWER: TRUE
    Glucose, ketones and alcohol are used as fuel by our bodies. See Chapter 6 of DANDR 2002 for further explanation.


    2. The less fat and carbohydrates you eat the faster you will get into ketosis/lipolysis.
    ANSWER: FALSE
    Atkins is a high fat diet. Doing a low fat version of Atkins will decrease your weight loss. During Induction, fat should comprise about 65% of your daily caloric intake.


    3. Cheese is an unlimited food.
    ANSWER: FALSE
    Cheese is limited to 3-4 ounces daily during Induction.


    4. Aspartame use is discouraged.
    ANSWER: TRUE
    Dr. Atkins found that aspartame use stopped or slowed weight loss in some of his patients. Therefore, he discouraged the use of aspartame during Induction.


    5. Loss of inches represents real fat loss---the emptying of your fat cells.
    ANSWER: TRUE
    The scale is a funny instrument because it doesn't tell you what percentage of your weight is due to muscle, water, or fat. This is why Dr. Atkins said to measure your arms, chest, waist, and hips in addition to weighing yourself before starting the diet and to monitor inches lost.

    Men have the 'advantage' over women. So ladies, unless you want to drive yourself crazy, there's no sense in making weight loss a race between yourself and a male.
