    Re: Induction True and False

    1. I should not eat any foods that aren’t included on the induction acceptable food list

True: Dr. Atkins recommends that you eat absolutely nothing that isn’t on

    the acceptable food list

    2. I should read labels before deciding to eat something

True: Don’t assume any food is low in carbohydrates, many foods have
    hidden sugars in them

    3. Caffeine doesn’t affect weight loss

False: Caffeine has been known to cause low blood sugar which can in
    turn make you crave carbohydrates

    4. I can have margarine instead of butter

False: Margarine should not be consumed not because of its fat content
But because of the hydrogenated oils in it, this is a health hazard

    5. If a label says “Sugar Free” I can eat it

False: It must also state the carbohydrate content. Be aware of sugar
alcohols, which add greatly to the total carbohydrate content of sugar
    free products

    6. I should limit my use of artificial sweeteners to 3 packets a day

True: Too much artificial sweetener can cause a stall in loss

    7. There’s nothing I can do to control sugar cravings

False: Dr. Atkins feels that 500 mg of L-Gluramine prior to a meal will
help get you through the cravings that may come in the beginning

    8. Contrary to popular belief, eating fat will help with weight loss

True: The key to burning fat instead of carbohydrates is the ratio of fat to
carbohydrate, not the ratio of fat to protein

    9. I’ve been eating carbs for so long they will take forever to leave my body

False: The carbohydrates will leave your body in about 2 days if you
    follow the rules of induction

    10. I should have the proper foods on hand for eating

True: If you have plenty of induction foods available the temptation to
eat non friendly foods will lessen

    11. My cholesterol will go up if I eat lots of fat

True: This is a trick question. A rise in total cholesterol could be a
good thing due to a rise in HDL, which is the “good cholesterol”

    12. I need to stay on induction so I won’t be tempted by other foods

False: The standard induction period is 14 days. After that you
Will be adding new foods to your diet slowly, and in the order
    recommended by Dr. Atkins.

    13. I don’t need to be concerned with calories eating this way

False: While you can have as much legal food as you need to in
order to stay satisfied, calories do matter in that you will gain weight
by taking in more calories than you burn.

    14. Drinking eight 8 oz glasses of water each day will help me with weight loss

True: Drinking a minimum of eight 8 oz. glasses of water each day will hydrate
your body and help flush out the by-products of burning fat

    15. Cheese doesn’t have carbohydrates

False: All cheeses have some carbohydrate content, approximately 1
gram of carbohydrate for every ounce of cheese
