  • question about 'new' messages

So I'm only getting the bolded messages indicating that they are new if they're new within the last hour or so. I'm finding it really hard to keep track of things, even the ones I'm subscribed to do the same thing!

i've looked in my options and I don't see any way to change this. I'd like them to be bold if they are new messages or replies since the last time I looked at the thread.

    Any way to do this?

    thanks!

After Ive read the forums, I click on "mark forums read" under quicklinks. This should take care of it... HTH.

there seems to be a time limit for reading them once you log in as i had 12 pages of new posts this morning when i logged in and only got to read 3 of them before I timed out. Now all the forums are showing all those topics as read even though i never got to them all anddon't know what they were.

Elleth and Perry can you change that to unlimited so we can see them new until we mark our forums read or open them? It would help us alot. Does it hurt server preformance?

Yep, the server marking them as read after 5 minutes even if I havne't read them is the biggest problem - I can't figure out which ones I've read and haven't read. I want them to remain unread until I either read them or tell the forum to mark all as read.

It is especially bad for the subscribed posts - Those are the ones I want to read and all of a sudden they're marked as if I'd read them and I can't remember which ones i did and didn't read. And it's even worse if I have to wait til later to read them - then I REALLY don't know what's going on anymore.

I thought that was the norm for bulletin boards, I've never run across this before. Is there a setting we can change?

I don't know what has happened to the powers that be. I'm anxiously awaiting an answer to this question as well! For those of us at work that sign in in the morning and peek in periodically trying to catch up, this feature of it marking things as already read when they're really not is very annoying. I am really missing out on alot of good posts.

            Re: question about 'new' messages

hey I don't know if this helps... but I'm tired of it timing out and me losing visibility to new posts after only such short period of time. So what I do is on the 1st page I click on "New Post", then where it lists page 2, I right click on it and "open in new window/tab", and I keep doing it for however many pages of new windows/tabs there would be, so even after a few hours I can still see all the new posts that I haven't read yet.

As for marking a thread read... that I don't know, you'll have to ask the admins and it seems like Perry & Elleth are having a few days rest after our move?
