  • Tips on sizing signature pics and avatars

We love seeing everyone's progress pictures and the signatures that make each member an 'individual.' Please continue to include them, just keep a few tips in mind.

Very important, if you have several pics in a row, please add a space between them. Without the space, it will cause side-scrolling for someone with a small monitor or low resolution, which makes it very difficult to read the messages as they have to keep shifting back and forth. If you are putting several together, please use a space or an enter to separate them. Also, try not to stack too many on top of each other as this can cause your signature to be taller than the screen for those with small monitors at a low resolution.

We do not have a specific size restriction for pictures, but do please keep in mind those with slower connections. A photo can be a visible size, but compressed so that it is smaller in resolution. This improves loading. Try to keep the size of any individual file under 30KB for best optimization, and no more than 50KB. Try to never go over 300 pixels in height or 399 in width (side scrolling begins at 400 pixels wide for those with lower resolution). If you stack pictures, try to keep your stack at a maximum of 400 pixels high.

Avatars are best done by uploading to the site via the uploader. These do need to be 6 kb in size or less. Large avatars put in by a link instead of uploading tend to be distracting, especially if very large. We won't gripe at you about it, but those pics do better in signatures, not as avatars.

Re: Tips on sizing signature pics and avatars

I have photoshop, so re-sizing is easy now I know the rules!

I can help others no probs, but please do not inundate me with hundreds of piccie requests at one time, ten at a time is plenty. You may give my email address to those who need their piccie resized, ask them to attach to email, and I will send the piccie back as an attachment.

    Hope that helps!
