Getting serious and taking control
by Dreamof145
Two years ago I reached a turning point in my life. I had let myself go. I was fat, miserable and very unhappy with my weight. I couldn’t bend over to put on my socks or tie my shoes. I judged my worth by the size of my body. I felt alone and didn’t know what to do. The turning point was when I found the ADBB and committed to doing Atkins.
It saddens me to see others struggling mentally and physically as I was. I’d like to share what I’ve learned so that others can be rewarded with better health and an inner peace that comes with losing the weight. I’m not at goal yet, but I’m getting closer and know that it will happen. It can happen for you too. Wishing and hoping doesn’t work. I tried that many times. Getting serious about losing the weight, making a plan to do it and taking control of your actions is the only thing that will make it happen.
First of all… read the book, Dr. Atkins’ New Diet Revolution, edition 2002. He is the one who devised the weight loss plan and reading in his own words how to do it is essential to understanding what to do and how to do it.
Then, write out a plan to incorporate the program into your life. Everyone has different obligations in their life. It doesn’t matter if you have children, where you live, where you work or how much money you have -- what matters is that you take the rule that Dr. Atkins devised and apply it into your unique life-style. You will have to make changes in your life. Change is what is going to get you to goal. If you make excuses to keep your life the same as it is now, then you won’t make the necessary changes that will result in success in your weight loss. If your life changes…revise your plan.
Do a clean induction. Induction is important to stabilize your blood sugar, get rid of cravings and convert your body into burning fat as fuel instead of using stored carbohydrates .
Exercise. This is non negotiable. If you don’t do some form of exercise, then you aren’t doing Atkins. Nobody said you have to run marathons or join a gym. Find something that is financially and physically in your ability to do. Walk, dance, swim, or whatever you can. The important thing is to get your body moving and burn calories.
Drink lots of water. Water is essential in helping your body perform mentally and physically. It keeps you from getting dehydrated as you change your daily routine. It flushes toxins and helps you from getting constipated. It helps your skin’s elastically capability so as you lose the weight, you will have less sagging and healthier looking complexion.
Take vitamins and nutritional supplements to keep your body working at its best capacity. If your body is working properly, you will see greater results.
Stay focused on your weight loss. Make choices everyday that are going to agree with your new life-style. As you follow the program and see the inches and weight melt away, that is going to be the best motivator for you. Take your measurements as well as weighing yourself. Look for substitutions in your meals. Almost every meal you enjoy now can be substituted with an Atkins friendly meal. If you don’t know of a substitute, ask in the forums. You will receive many replies from others who know how to make what you want to eat with acceptable substitutes. Get involved with others who are doing it. ADBB is filled with supportive, motivating people who are willing to share their knowledge and comments to help you. You don’t have to do it alone.
Move into OWL. Study how its done and ask questions if you don’t understand it. Move up the rungs properly so you will know how your body reacts to the added foods and help eliminate boredom in your food selections.
Move into Pre Maintenance. This is important to create your own permanent lifetime of eating patterns.
Move into Lifetime Maintenance. After you’ve reached goal, this is the phase you’ll stay in to stay there.
