A great way to start off the Labor Weekend would be to read the words of Sherri, Supporting Member/Moderator. A true Labor of Love and Atkins Success Story is offered for your reading pleasure.
Good Morning Friends and Peeps,
It's hard to believe that Labor Day weekend is upon us. It was 14 years ago when I was laying in a hospital for a scheduled C-Section to deliver my Sierra. I weighed 374 pounds and at a high risk pregnancy with no guarantee to carrying her full term .In fact my doctor had asked me at my first OBGYN appt. if I wanted to terminate the pregnancy, because I was so sick. I said "NO WAY, IT'S DO OR DIE!" We had been trying to get pregnant for a year after me being diagnosed with Hypothyroidism (age 32). After the medication(synthoid) brought my thyroid hormone back up to normal levels. I became pregnant.
I took really good care of myself throughout my pregnancy. I followed the diabetic diet after being diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes in my 2nd trimester. Having to give myself insilin shots. I only gained 19 pounds throughout my pregnancy.
We tried delivering her natural. They put me on what they call a drip system to induce labor. I ended up in labor for 72 hours. I waited as long as I could. We discovered that she was sunny side up and was stuck at 3 cm. She was in distress and had already dirtied her nest. So we had to go in for emergency C-section at that point. She was delivered at 1:28 a.m on September 3rd. The happiest moment in my life. She put a whole new meaning of Labor Day for me.
I wouldn't take any of it back.
It's when she was about 3 months old that I decided to do my own version of Atkins(1994). Not having the book and going by what I had heard from others. I look back on it now and realize that I was following more of the grain rung. I lost 30 pounds then. In 2000 I developed Type-2 Diabetes. I had had Gestational Diabetes with Sierra, but it had gone away right after delivery. Only to return 6 years later(at the age of 40). After 4 years of dealing with two types of medication to control the Diabetes(again)I said, THIS IS ENOUGH! I was at 334 pound, extremely unhealthy blood chemistry, high blood pressure and feeling tired of feeling sick and tired. That's when I bought the Atkins DANDR 2002 in July of 2004. On July 7, I began my journey and I havn't looked back since. BYE-BYE 145 POUNDS! No more Diabetes, No more high blood pressure and No more unhealthy blood chemistry!
I look at my BEAUTIFUL 14 year old Sierra Pearl and am extremely thankful for all she has done for me. She may not realize it, but it is because of her that I am as healthy as I am to this day. It is because of her that I wake up everyday to put my best Atkins foot forward so I can grow old to see her grow up and graduate from school, go on to college, get married and have her own children some day. I'm looking forward to the day where I hear the words Grandma and look at the journey that brought me to that special moment.
Thank you Sierra for being my precious angel and for saving my life!!!
It's all about the Journey!!

THANK YOU ATKINS!!!
