  • Have you made any lifestyle changes due to the gas price increase?

Just curious to see if anyone has made any lifestyle changes due to the gas price increase (and other increases due to gas prices).

Our first change was swapping vehicles. I now drive the truck since I go a short distance and Matt drives the Honda since it is more fuel efficient and he drives two hours a day for work.

I go where I have to .. fortunately I only have a 2 mile commute to work, which really helps. My car takes premium gas though ... but hey, gotta pay to drive "CUTE" ..

I used to work where I could use public transportation now I dont and it is a bummer ..personally I would love to ride a train or bus to work ..we just do not have anything in my commute direction that does not make a 20min ride into an all day trip ...

I have to say if I lived 2 miles from work I would walk

The changes I've made are small, but they help. I try to do all my shopping and errands in one trip instead of driving all over town. I don't make trips into the "big city" nearly as much, I shop locally. Though sometimes that's hard, I live in a dying General Motors town and so many things have closed that sometimes you have to go out of town to find what you want.

And my second job is a mile from home so a lot of days I've walked there and back.

I'm fortunate to have found a job which involves me working in an office, just a 12 minutes walk from my home. So that does save me spending on PETROL quite a bit.

We used to go for quite a few 'drives' out in the courntry to get out of the city. We haven't since the 'gas crunch' started. But, fortunately....we are now moving in a few weeks to the country. I can't wait. No more traffic jams or road rage which have become the norm for here. Our new town only has 3 exits off the freeway and everything I'll need is within walking distance. I'll only drive when the weather won't permit me to walk with the baby. (I'll be watching my grand-daughter while her mommy works)

Re: Have you made any lifestyle changes due to the gas price increase?

I have been careful with using my gasoline for years. So I still try to do the same.

Only thing is my mother lives 20 miles away and I do go and do her shopping. My daughter and her family are a big help taking turns with me, but DD and her family are moving to Nebraska the weekend of the 20th. So it will be up to me to help mom after Casey moves.

My mom had her last knee replaced close to the time Becky(Dream) was going thru her surgery. So that was lots of running to help mom, but one of those things that has to be done. I wouldn't have it any other way.

So we have spent a bunch of money on gas the last few months with my MIL passing away in Woodward, Ok.(250 miles away). then mom having surgery in amarillo Texas,(120 miles away). My brother had back surgery 2 months ago in Amarillo also.

So I have been running to check on lots of family in the last few months,(since last February).

So you see where I have been lately. On the run and spending money on gasoline. Just glad I had the money to buy it.

Happy Low Carbing! I have missed everyone!

Although I only live 14 blocks from the main office and 16 blocks from the school I drive most of the time. I usually am hauling guitar, amp, gig bag, or briefcase, laptop, etc. There was a rare occasion where I walked to work when I did not have a car. I do have a bike and hopefully in Aug, I will ride to work a couple days a week.

Re: Have you made any lifestyle changes due to the gas price increase?

There is nothing for me to change!

I live 7 miles from work, drive 2 and from work only and I stop for groceries at a place that is on the way. I do make a grocery store trip on the weekend to a store that is only about 1 1/2 miles away.

John drives a company vechile for work and they pay for the gas. So we're pretty conservative already, even before the gas price hikes.

Does anyone else think that their gas is burning up quicker now that they are cutting it with ethanol? I am not driving any more than my usual and my gas seems to be running out sooner than normal.

I check my pantry when Mom's going to get groceries, and she gets them, and vice versa so we each make fewer trips. I use 87 octane more often, and add lighter fluid to boost the mileage I get (Ronson - i bottle per 15 gal). I'm randomly exploring the countryside much less than last year, too, and with heating oil price married to gas prices, thinking of getting a wood stove.

No, but I don't like looking at the amount when I pump the gas. I just stick in the card and don't look. It costs us 175.00 to fill up our motorhome. Is that crazy
