When do you put your Christmas tree up?

2-3 weeks ago, I saw a house that already had their outdoor Christmas lights display on. Yesterday on the bus ride home, I saw someone's Christmas tree up in their window.

We put ours up on Thanksgiving day...just a tradition we like to follow. I know others put theirs up when it's closer to Christmas too.

When do you put yours up?

Anytime Thanksgiving Day or later! It's a tradition that started with my Mom when I was a child.

Hehe...so we're not the only ones My parents put theirs up on Christmas Eve usually. When I was at home with them, I put it up 2 weeks before Christmas.

We don't celebrate thanks giving. My family put ours up 2nd week in December.

I did find that last year I waited much longer though, not sure why, it took me a while to really get in the Christmas spirit. I have two teens and I think last year I was just a bit stressed from the raging hormones that fly when you have teens in the house!

I REALLY miss the days when they were little and just stood in awe for a few seconds on Christmas morning, watching the lights from the tree twinkle even brighter somehow, in that moment, on the wrapping paper. Of course, about 3 seconds later, they were RIPPING that paper off and not so much in awe any more!

When I was a kid, the day after Thanksgiving is when the decorations went up--outside lights and indoor garlands...usually the tree went up later, as my parents would buy a real one--didn't want it totally dead by Christmas.

My boyfriend and I are planning on putting up our stuff on Friday (day after TG) so we don't have to mess with it on a non-vacation day...oooh and I'm like a little kid, I love Christmas decorations!

we put it up ususally the second or 3rd week depending on the weather cause the family goes and picks it out too.

this yr will be weird cause of being gone for 2 weeks at Christmas we decided got fire safety issues not to have one here.

Me too! We still have our 16-way flashing tree lights...but apparently they don't sell them anymore. I wonder why? My in-laws are visiting for Christmas, so I'm putting up extra decorations! I can't wait to put up the tree

Typical post-Y2K holiday schedule here:

Day after Halloween - plain wreath goes on door
Next 2 weeks - start gift & trim & card shopping
Thanksgiving weekend - add indoor & outdoor decorations, include decorate wreath, do more shopping
Dec week 1 - send out cards, start wrapping gifts
Dec week 2 - tree up, undecorated, mail some gifts
Dec week 3 - finish gift wrapping (& last minute shopping)
X-mas Eve - decorate tree, make treats & start turkey
Dec week 4 - hit the sales; expect Valentines to be on display by New Years...

We get a tree around the second week, but we usually don't finish decorating until right before or on Christmas Eve.

My sister's birthday is December 13th so we grew up putting ours up the weekend after her birthday (always a real tree so that would give maybe 4 weeks we would have it up). After I married we stuck to the 2nd week of December but this year my son got down all the christmas stuff on Thanksgiving day after all the company left so I am now sitting typing and looking at my beautiful decorated christmas tree. Boy, the season is going to feel long now though.

I never could decide when was the best time, so early in my married, when the kids were babies, i just started doing it 12 days before Christmas, of course the song inspired me, but I thought it was a good time. After I divorced, i didn't celebrate Christmas until my son married a girl that was horrified that there were actually people in the world that didn't celebrate Christmas. She had never even heard of Judaism. That marriage didn't last long, because she thought he was just too different for her after all, but we kidded him about picking up a country girl for a while. Not that there is anything wrong with a country girl, in fact, I prefer the country to the city. We just had to tease him.

But when we did celebrate Christmas, we did 4 trees (3 fresh, 1 aluminum), a lot of decorating and the center tree was always 10ft. We aren't Catholic either, but we enjoyed going to midnight mass on Christmas Eve, then usually stayed up all night to party with all the late arriving guests. My family loved sleeping all afternoon on Christmas Day, then got up and partied with all new people that arrived in the eveing.

I dont put mine up until a couple of days before Christmas!!!

I think once we've got children it will probably be a month before!! hehe

You guys! Please post pictures of your holiday decorations over at the Celebration forum about holiday decorations! I want to see what everyone does! It will help get us in the holiday spirit!
