Re: A successful Halloween on plan? You can do it!

@cleo: About giving out playdough, the little kids will love it, but expect a few eyerolls when the older kids come a-callin'. Maybe that bowl of hubby's candy can go to those kids. And I'm not talking about the 15-year-olds either. If kids who have reached puberty knock on your door, tell them that they are greedy little bastages and to go get a job and buy their own candy. (hmm...does G-Mom have a bit of a bias here?)

LOL I get alot of those kids!!!! When I was 18 I remember opening the door to 2 girls who were pretty much the same age as me. . They were pretty embarrassed

The only thing that annoys me more than that is kids that aren't wearing costumes. I mean little kids too, not teens. We have a real problem with that here. You can buy halloween masks at the dollar store so there is no excuse. I also notice that we get very few unique and creative costumes. when i was a kid that was the fun of it..trying to make a costume that was original.

I have 3 big bags of mini chocolate bars in my cupboard right now. I have never had an issue with halloween. I usually make myself a little legal sweet treat while i'm shelling out. It's never been a problem. If I have leftovers (I usually waaay overbuy), I save a few for my hubby for his lunches, then i bring the rest up to the cottage and keep them there for treats for my stepdaughter.

Sadie, you have got it all down pat. It's awesome that even though you are in maintenance, you don't think "it's ok just to have a few bars."

We are out with the boys all night trick-or-treating so we don't hand out candy, but if we did and we have extras, I would save some for hubby too, but then creatively package them up in 18 little bags and have my son give them out to his class for Thanksgiving or something. Getting them out of the house is always good!

Re: A successful Halloween on plan? You can do it!

I've never had a problem with halloween. When I was a kid I'd never eat my candy, so my mom would freeze it and then my friends and I would have a christmas pinata with it. Weird, no? now I'm more liable to want to chow down on a bag of candy, but for me it's chips and fries and stuff that get me!

I like the idea of making little baggies for your kids though. I don't think I'd have the heart to not allow them to go Trick or Treating though. Or to not allow them to eat the candy.

Heck, that seems odd, and pre-new kittens, I would have thought a cat wanting to eat RAW butternut squash innards and seeds was downright bizarre, but nope, my kitty Tux gobbled up a clump the other night!! Gosh, call me crazy, but I thought cats were carnivores!!

I had to come and let you guys know...

We gave out playdough tonight to over 50 kids, and it was a major runaway hit! The teenagers especially loved it, and the guy teens were totally psyched! I know... I was surprised, too.

I love it, and we're totally going to give it out again next year!

How Did You Celebrate Halloween Without Candy?

Ok, the big candy day is behind us. How did you all do? Let's discuss how we celebrated without the evil sweets!

Mine was easy! We bought no candy, and we had no trick or treaters! For me, out of sight, out of mind works well!
