    Wow! Where to start?
I had finally decided to try low-carbing, after trying virtually everything else to get my eating under control. My DH was himself quite a bit overweight and had been all the time I'd known him. He wasn't particularly concerned about his weight, but I was increasingly concerned about the future of his health as well as my own. I cooked low-carb meals for myself and just continued to feed him the "extras" such as rice and potatoes. He never complained and was always willing to go along with whatever I wanted to do.
After my first 3 months on Atkins, we were in Las Vegas with our band. I was eating eggs, and steak, broccoli and salads, for the most part. He kept watching all the stuff I was shoveling in and decided that maybe he would want to try this diet too. So, on January 1st, 2004, he started Atkins. It was really fun to teach him all I'd learned about the why's and wherefore's of this WOE. I introduced him to the bulletin boards and frequently showed him before and after pics of some of the members. I'd try new recipes on him. He dropped 75 pounds so effortlessly and quickly, people didn't even recognize him. He has many, many musician friends and people he hadn't seen in awhile would actually walk by him and not realize who he was!
One of the neatest things has been to see how completely and wholeheartedly he's embraced this lifestyle. And that's the key. It's a lifestyle, and without his support and compliance, I'm not sure I'd still be a low-carber today! I've run into my share of troubles with the weight loss. I lost about 50 pounds and have been stalled since, dealing with menopause and hormone imbalances. But he's always right there with me, continuing to encourage me and to NEVER sabotage me.
We've been married 31 years and I can't think of anyone I'd ever want to grow old with more! And now I know we'll grow old in better health because we BOTH are dedicated to this WOE.

I'd like to nominate my husband for mate of the year. This man has been an unwaivering source of inspiration and encouragement to me over the past 5 years that I've been on Atkins.
When I took up running in November 2003, he never liked the idea that I would run alone, particularly in the dark early morning hours before work. So, even though he himself was not a runner, he chose to get up at the same time (circa 4:30 am) and ride his bicycle behind me to ensure that I was safe. That was in 2003. He's still doing that for me today, 3 years later. Every Saturday is my long-sustained-distance run, and he faithfully loads the bike on the back of car, drives us to the running trail and rides behind me beginning at 6:00 am every single Saturday morning for a 3-4 hours as I run. He carries my towels, my water, and my other electrolyte replacement drinks on the bike.
Why does he do it? Because he loves me. Now, if that's not a special man, I don't know what is.
