Re: A Celebration for the Hostesses of Journal Chats

And I don't know how you, Jess, will restrain yourself from spreading your words of wisdom and motivation around. In every situation, you see the larger meaning and bring it to light -- it's not just about the "what" -- it's about the "why". Even when people are at the pinnacle of a current goal (my half marathon, our Peachtree), you are pushing, encouraging for "what's next." From you, I learned that goals keep me going. Sounds so obvious, but I never really realized what an impact it could have, especially on my commitment to fitness. I've so enjoyed getting to you and becoming friends out in the "real" world.

To the rest of you guys... wow! Thanks so much! When I was asked to be a hostess, I felt like it was the least I could do in return for all this board -- and all of YOU -- have given to me. I've come to really enjoy the journals -- as Jimmie said, I rarely find my way out of them. I think I like them because I've always liked getting to know people in a personal way. The journals achieve that. I continue to be motivated by the caring and support I witness there everyday -- and not just from the hostesses and moderators, but among ALL of you! YOU guys are really what makes the journals such a great place to be.

I wouldn't have been as successful adopting this new lifestyle without this board and the great people here. So, thank YOU for including me so warmly in this AWESOME community! And thank you, mods, for your constant support and all you do behind the scenes to keep this place a float (and keep us out of trouble).

Re: A Celebration for the Hostesses of Journal Chats

                You're both so appreciated!

Adena, even though I figured my chat journal wouldn't be of much interest to anyone but myself, I didn't really care. It was meant to be more of a place to record my health issues and progress for later reference. However, you more than anyone would pop in out of the blue and give me encouragement. In the beginning, I didn't think I would need any, so I was surprised by how much your postings did mean to me.

Jess, YOU are the one I'm simply trying to follow. I've been totally dumbfounded by all you've accomplished, particularly at our age and height. You've drastically changed my perception of just what I could accomplish. I was originally going to be happy with a size 14 and to be able to walk a few miles without issues. Now I'm setting my size goal for size 8 (if size 6 happens, kewl beans!) and am no longer ruling out running altogether; that's now a "wait and see what I'm capable of later". The biggest blessings are your inspirational posts here and in your own personal journal. The way you've embraced this way of life keeps bringing me back when I start goofing up; more importantly, when I'm doing something, do it really well. Mediocrity just isn't acceptable.

                Adena and Jess,
from the bottom of my heart,
                THANK YOU!

i don't have so much the direct quotes of members but in the recent I AM WORTH IT CHALLNEGE one of the assignments was to tell who was a inspriation to you. to give quotes and such.

many times over, the challengers chose jess and adena as two people that gave so much and inspired them.

i have to think of the time when jess going through the burden of losing her mom. there she was, at the hospital at all hours trying not to loose her mind.
now most of us or at least a fair amount of us would sit and do nothing. but not jess! i would grin whenever she made a post in the pledging flights challenge that "while mom was resing, i managed to climb the flights in the hospital. i got 20 done today!". what a trooper! even in the midst of such a lfe event, there she was being true to her challenges.

Re: A Celebration for the Hostesses of Journal Chats

THANK YOU LADIES, for all of the awesome work you do!

I will always think of Jess and Adena as my "graduating class"--we all started in August of 2006. So this is for you, classmates!

                    JESS--
Jess is THE FIRST person I "met", and the first person who welcomed me to the board. I was overwhelmed when I found this place. It was bustling, people were asking questions, responding with highly detailed answers, completing challenges, talking about rungs (and I thought, "what the heck is a rung?"), basically just going a million miles a minute. But Jess welcomed me with open arms, she spoke to ME, not just my screenname or my thread, but right to me as a person. I remember being so amazed that someone would take the time to welcome little old me to this huge place. I remember her being "The BOSS of STAC"--she started check-in threads, she was a mover and shaker, and I was ASTOUNDED to find that she'd only been there about 6 weeks before I arrived. Holy cow! This lady knows how to make an impression! Jess has always been the voice of inspiration, of encouragement, of genuine concern. Her heart is so huge to care about so many in such a real way.

I remember starting the Corn Challenge with Jess and CJB back in November. Back then, Jess said "I don't run." I'm glad Jess never says never, because she just finished the Peachtree roadrace, a 6 mile race! She runs almost everyday I think, and I know she's such an inspiration to aspiring runners out there. She never lets a day go by without exercise, and I LOVE that attitude! She knows that exercise is her foundation, it's her basis, and like me, Jess loves that endorphin high!

Jess, thanks for being so human and genuine, I will NEVER forget my FIRST ADBB mentor!

                    ------------------------

                    ADENA--
Adena and I started Atkins within days of each other. I've always looked to Adena for support and advice. She was so helpful to me, explaining the rungs, encouraging me to move forward, telling me not to be afraid of whole grains!

Adena has really inspired me to become a runner. If I had to vote on one person who motivated me to start running, it would be Adena. I was so impressed by her dedication and her progress and her "stick-to-it-iveness" that I figured I would give it a serious try. Even with a busy job, a bustling family, and other duties, Adena trained for and ran a HALF MARATHON! I was bursting with excitement for her on that day. She had worked so hard (and is one of the hardest workers on this board) I was so happy to see her succeed.

I also consider Adena a friend. I love when she visits my journal and I love reading her posts. I would be honored to know Adena in real life. She has met many members (and I tease her about earning her ADBB merit badge for meeting the most members) who verify that she is indeed as amazing in person as she is on the board! Her humor and honesty come through on every post, and she has always given me wise, levelheaded, and genuine advice. I always feel special when Adena posts something in my journal, and I know that each of you feel the same way.

                    ----------------------------

So ladies, thanks for all you do. You TRULY make ADBB a positive, energetic, and exciting place to be. You guys read those "I Am Worth It Challenge" threads. What names popped up over and over again--JESS and ADENA! You have made an impact on us here, and you will become legend if you haven't already.

People will say, "Man, remember those awesome thought-provoking posts that Jess always gives? She is still here supporting the newbies although she hit her goal on Labor Day 2007!"

People will say, "Do you know that Adena has been a Journal Hostess for 5 years, and she's been maintaining her goal weight for 4 years? She's also recently run 3 marathons in 3 months. I want to know how she does it!"

Lots of love to you, my favorite ladies, enjoy your HOSTESS DAY!

Adena...you crack me up. You have the greatest sense of humor and I so look forward to reading your posts. Well, I just want to say that it's so nice when I can always count on you guys to make me feel important and loved. IF there's ever a visit to my journal it's from you guys and that personal touch is what helps me stay on track. It makes me feel like someone DOES care and I wouldn't make it without your encouragement. Thank you both for making the effort. You have no idea how much it means to us all. Feeling alone is one of the worst feelings but you two won't have it. It's tough love, humor, friendship and compliments that you bring and help fulfill my journaling life.
