  • working out WORKS, i'm proof!

i had a major case of PISS in my 2nd/3rd weeks, where i gained 4/5lbs after the initial 1st week loss, and just stuck there.

5 days ago, i vowed to work out 2 hours a day, every day, then come back and take a look at measurements and weight and see how working out hard really effects your body. a lot of women are concerned they'll bulk up if they work out, or gain so much muscle they'll actually weigh more or stall on the scale.

so, 5 days later, 2 hours of workouts i broke through my PISS stall and have actually lost 1 pound or more (today it was 1.4) every day for the last few days, and have lost 7 inches total, three big ones from just my hips!
at sunnys request i'll be keeping up with my 2 hour workouts and measurements for the next 90 days, well, now 83 days. working out works. next time you're in a stall and frustrated because you're doing everything right, go make yourself feel like you want to die in the gym. my biggest factor was that if the guys on biggest loser can work out 4-6 hours a day by god i can do more than just barely break a sweat on my gazelle! push yourself, you'll be surprised what you can actually do.

Re: working out WORKS, i'm proof!

I agree kib --- 3 months ago I could barely walk around the block where I live - now I walk 2 -3 miles without thinking about it. A couple weeks ago I could barely make 2 - 3 miles on my bike....after going back to re-induction and readjusting my brain so I was back on track with the plan I now ride 15 miles 3 times a week. I feel great when I finish my exercises now.

I also agree that if the Biggest Loser participants can exercise all day long I can get on that darn bike and spend an hour on it. Of course you know they have doctors standing in the wings and their "job" is to loose weight and exercise - we have real lives which makes it hard to spend 5 - 6 hours in the gym daily.

Some of the workouts look extremely dangerous for morbidly obese people without being monitored the way they are and we only see the best video to make the best most interesting 1 hour TV viewing. It may be interesting viewing, but it's not "reality" in the way my life works.

I've read on this forum where some people are involved with Biggest Loser programs of their own at work, or with friends. I'm afraid many of these people are ruining their lives all to be the winner of a tv-show type program. I read last night where one lady was doing Atkins (the correct way I'm not real sure by her "quick loss" questions) but others with her were on 600 calorie diets -- that is dangerous.

I just hope people use the Atkins plan the way it was written, use the 3 legged stool approach (diet, exercise, supplements) - understand that the quick fix plans don't work, you have to work to loose weight and make it stay off.

I wish you well in the gym!

Well you will certainly have a lovely fit figure!

Two hours a day is impressive. I can't commit that much with my other responsibilities, but I will concur that exercise is highly effective... if all you can start with is walking 50 feet, start there and build up. My first squat challenge I whined about how hard it was to do 3 squats in a row. Now I find I enjoy them, and 150 in a day is not even difficult. The muscles in my lower back are rock solid and my back feels so strong!

Re: working out WORKS, i'm proof!

i work from home so i have the time to do a longer workout, but i think whats most important is that with whatever time you do have, to really push yourself and make it count.
its rediculous lisa, when i first started I -hated- my gazelle. I didn't feel like it ever did anything for me. That was becaue I wasn't trying. I like to get sweaty and feel sore after a workout, and since i injured my knee around x mas all I can do is no-impact, aka the gazelle, and I didn't even want to try it, i thought it'd just be a waste of time.
Once I stayed on it and actually -worked- my muscles rather than just swinging around, It works great. my knee is fine, and i've been sore as heck every day since i started lol. It gets my heart rate to 70% which is right where i want it to be, and after a while sweat literally drips off me. i know thats gross lol but thats how i know when i'm really working. and i *gasp* LIKE it!

All credit goes to sherri!!! I was in my journal whining about my gazelle, and she pointed to the gazelle challenge, and thats really whats kept me motivated to work harder and to not only make my goal of 390 minutes by my birthday but to pass it and then some! All <3 to sherri!

I agree, working out is worth it! I will do 2 hours some days, but mostly its an hour or a little more. Once the snow is gone (yes, still SNOW!) then I can go on my 5K runs without danger of getting soaked or falling, and that will be on top of what I am already doing. Yesterday I did 2 hours and tomorrow I am doing 2.5 hours! I am very anxious to get my butt back into my size 10's and even 8's

Re: working out WORKS, i'm proof!

I cant remember being in an 8 or a 10, that'd be totally unbelievable to me! but i think with working out i'll get there much faster! my previous challenge was 390 minutes, and i passed it up today at 432 with two week to spare. so now my new goal is from tomorrow to the end of the month, at 1560 minutes! eep!
its about 75 degrees today claire, you should move to austin. of course in the summer we all have to hibernate in the AC, but you get used to it lol

                  I'm IMPRESSED!
I can't commit to working out for two hours- Wish I could but I'm pretty sure the 5 and 3 year olds would protest through nefarious behaviours
I agree- working out is the best thing you can do. The amount of energy I've gotten back...I'd go on but you all have already felt the results

i really have to applaud all of you with kids who make the time to work out and get yourself taken care of! I can't imagine how tiring that has to be. I had my 2 yr old nephew for 3 days and he tossed my routine all out of whack lol

I was in Phoenix a few weeks back and we are thinking of becoming snowbirds and spending some time there in the winter. I love it here in the summer, its not but not so hot that you can't enjoy being outside...but too hot to run in

im originally from south east texas, and I did band in high school and played soccer for 10 years. doing that stuff in 110 degree weather is one thing, but with the aded 100%humidity it was torture. You step outside and instantly need a shower!

Phoenix seemed so dry....when we were there it was 80 but it felt more like 65 or 70 without the high humidity I am used to. I loved it!
