  • 40 down 40 to go and things I've learned.

Today marks the 11 weeks since I started Atkins for the third time and I am half way to my goal of 80 lbs lost. The first 20 came off in three weeks. It has taken 8 weeks to get the second 20. What I have learned is I was lucky to be losing even at the rate I was for the past 8 weeks. I was still able to lose at least 2 pounds a week even though I was not exactly textbook Atkins.

I should have known better as this was my third time. The last time was in 2007 when I lost 50 pounds. You'd think I would learn my lesson and keep it off but here I am again. This time starting at an all-time high.

Somewhere along the line I forgot the importance of fat in the diet. I was eating low fat and even taking Alli for 7 of the last 8 weeks. I discovered this board about a week ago and have since corrected my ways. The three major violations I committed where at follows:

    1. Not enough fat.
    2. Too many diet sodas, low carb ice cream and Atkins Endulge bars.
    3. Not enough water.

I corrected these problems and have dropped 4 pounds in five days. I only wish I had found this board sooner. I have ordered the Atkins book and will pursue the second half of my goal much better educated.

I realize the next 40 pounds will likely drop much slower than the first 40. I have issued myself the challenge to be at goal weight by April 1, 2010. I am strongly resolved to learn from my past blunders and keep it off this time. Wish me luck.

You are doing great. Grats on the 40lbs! I think it helps that you recognize your mistakes, correct them and then can see the progress you made for making changes. Keep up the good work!

Welcome Kxb44, it's great to have you on the board with us!

Congratulations on losing 40 lbs.....that is quite the accomplishment and something you should be very proud of....well done!

I love posts like yours......you are LIVING this way of eating instead of using it as a quick fix....you're problem solving throughout your journey and making sure to correct the errors along the way....doing that my friend will get you EXACTLY where you want to be. This is my second time around eating this way....however, this time around I did it much differently then the first time and have also made it my life....I will always live and eat this way and will not go back to how I ate before.

I'm so glad to hear that you've ordered a book....read it carefully, many times from cover to cover....keep problem solving along the way when needed and be sure to celebrate your accomplishments along the way.....that is really important to do.

Btw...how is your exercise routine....do you have one?

Be sure to keep in touch and keep up the great job and great attitude....it's good to meet you.

        All the best,
        Sarina

Thank you for the kind words Sarina. Coming from you, it really means a lot. You are an inspirations to us all.

My exercise routine right now is pretty good. I'm getting in 30 minutes of cardio and 60 to 90 minutes of weight training 5 to 6 days a week. Working hard to regain the shape I had as a former athlete. I know it's in there somewhere.
