    Good Morning all-

    My Name is Leah I am married and have 2 little girls Mackenzie 4 and Madison 1. Weight Loss has always been a challenge for me! I started atkins 1/3/05 @ 185.5, I have been off for a month or so today i weigh 158.0. I want to get down to 125 and would like to lose 20 more lbs before christmas. do you think this is realistic? I like to have one cup of ice coffee a day, could someone ex[plain to me why coffee on atkins is not good. I do have the atkins book I have to do some reading to refreash my knowledge.

    This am so far:

    1 medimum dunkin donuts iced coffee with 3 splenda and x-cream
    ham and cheese omlet and bacon
    water.

    Caffeine effects some peoples weight loss. Everyone's different. Maybe some experts have a better explanation. Welcome to the ADBB! and Congrats on deciding to become healthier!

      Caffeine can cause an insulin reaction in which we suddenly have cravings and may give in and eat something high in carbs. This doesn't happen to everyone. What I do to protect against it is to have cream in my coffee and perhaps a piece of cheese or something else high in fat.

      Coffee won't cause a "stall" or slow your weight loss as long as it doesn't make you cheat!

        actually it does happen to everybody. Caffeine stimulates the production of insulin and in addition to reacting with the blood sugar to drop your levels it also is a FAT STORING hormone causing your dietary fats you had with the cofee to be stored while you are working on glucose which can be made in the human body from proteins, old parcially burned carbs and sugars and the glycerol backbone of fats.
        How you handle the blood sugar lowering is why some folk say caffeine has no effect on them cause they don't get a craving from it. They may be one of those insulin resistant folk Dr Atkins wrote about in the book or they may be better able to clear the insulin faster and release the stored fats faster once the insulin drops the blood sugars or they maybe one of those folk eating their prot4eins too high and have plenty of sugars to burn being released from protein conversions in the liver. there are more reasons why somebody can tell you it doesn't effect them but basically it is cause for some reason their body conpensated for the insulin release in a way that didn't cause them to feel hungry from the drop.
