  • Introducing Myself

Hi! My name is Michelle. I am 31, married with 4 small children. I started Atkins Tuesday. I'd like to lose 35 pounds. I'm 5'2" and 150 pounds. My DH is on Atkins as well so that makes it easier. I'd like to incorporate some exercise into my routine. I wanted to be thin before I worked out because I know muscle weighs more than fat and I'm afraid I'll just tone up my fat instead of losing it and in turn gain (muscle) weight. So that's a decision I'm battling with. I never really had a problem with weight when I was young. This all started after pregnancies. I got lazy. MyDH also put on some weight and he didn't care that I was heavier so I figured if he didn't care neither did I. But the truth is I did care. My self esteem is non-existent. I'm tired, moody, and just plain old miserable. I'm so happy to have found this site. It's inspiring to read about people here who have really accomplished their goals. I know I can do this and the support here is just phenomenal. Thank you for this site and allowing me to join. I need all the help I can get.

    Re: Introducing Myself

I strongly suggest you read your Dr Atkins new Diet revolution 2002 edition cause in chapter 15 he very clearly says if you are not exercising you are not doing his plan.

Exercise is mamdatory part of Atkins. it is a myth that muscle weighs more then fat a pound of fat is the same weight as a pound of muscle. Muscle is denser then fat so a pound of muscle will be much smaller then a pound of fat. Muscle also burns cals all day long while fat burns very little. It is also a myth about toning up fat you can only tone muscles you grow or shrink fat celss depending on if you are storing or burning fats for fuel. We are constantly on Atkins WOL morphing our bodies losing fat mass gaining muscle mass and fluids are in a state of flux. you will be seeing inches melting off even when the sclaes don't move cause you are doing your Atkins correctly with the correct eatting AND exercise.

Now for the part you didn't want to here. Eating the atkins plan your body will store the proteins it doesn't use in your muscles and reserves and you are going to add muscle weight while you burn of the fat storage areas so you best be exercising to tone up those muscles and burn more cals so you can be the healthiest smaller person you want to be.

there are many exercise chasllenges going on pick on and sign up.

      Re: Introducing Myself

Well thank you for your quick response. I do have DANDR and I have read it but I think I need a refresher course. I have an exercise DVD I used to do. It uses a stability ball and weights so I'll start with that. The information you've given is an eye opener so again thank you!

Hi and welcome! I couldn't agree more with 2big. In fact many of us around here would advise you to forget about the scale and make the tapemeasure your friend. Here's to your success!

Welcome Michelle. You've received the most important advice from 2Big. Read the book and do the ATKINS plan as Dr. Atkins advised you to do it. When I started Atkins, I had doubts that it would work for me. I don't have those doubts anymore. I can tell you if you read the book, drink water, take supplements and exercise, you will not only lose weight and look better, you will feel fantastic.

This site is great for giving advice, learning how to live comfortable in your new Way of Eating, participating in challenges and being part of a team of people who are all dedicated to lose weight and get healthy. So happy you joined us. I look forward to reading about your success and your husband's success too!
