  • Hi to everyone!!

    Hello everyone!! After looking around at this board for a while, i have decided to do the Atkins diet. I am a female, 5'8 and 175 lbs. My ultimate goal is to be around 130-140 lbs. I have tried many diets before but i have always failed, so hopefully this plan will work. I have been a strict vegan for 3 years, eating tons and tons of carbs. I stopped eating meat because i thought it would help me lose weight, but the opposite happened. I gained 20 lbs in a short 5 months. This august, i realized a vegetarian lifestyle wasn't for me, therefore i started eating meat again (no red meat though), and have cut out all breads and pastas. I was still eating tons of fruit, up to 5 apples a day, therefore i wasn't loosing any weight. Recently I have decided to try the Atkins diet and see how it will go. I am a major junk food addict, i love chocolate and ice cream and cookies, so this might be tough. Also, my friends and family aren't much support either, they constantly force me to eat things that are bad for me. This is why i came on this board, to find support from my fellow atkineers, and to support others as well.

    Mira g89, welcome to the ADBB. You're already on a good start if you've quit eating the breads and pastas. If you haven't read the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, edition 2002 book, then please do that. It is the guide that is used here to make sure we are doing Atkins right. As you will see from reading the book, it is important to exercise, drink lots of water and take vitamin supplements to keep your body performing properly.

    Everyone here is great for lending support and motivation. Best wishes and keep us posted. You can do it.

      Welcome aboard Mira. Glad you found us and joined. This is a very supportive group and I think you will enjoy both us and this board.
      One great thing about Atkins is you will not feel deprived. We can eat just about anything, we just have to change the recipe a bit.
      The best advise that I've ever gotten here is to get a copy of the book and read it cover to cover, cause the fastest way to lose is to follow it to the letter.
