  • Tomorrow is my first day

    Hi

I took the plunge this morning after I avoided the scale for almost 3 years. Here I am, 29 years old, feeling 99, tired all the time, and weighing in at a shocking 194lb. I feel like I've been in crisis mode for the last 3 years with baby-duties, and all of a sudden my kids (2 and 3 years old) are potty-trained and in daycare, and I have less to do and more time to do it in! I've decided there is no time like the present, so I went out and bought THE BOOK. My problems with weight started when I was 6 months pregnant with my youngest, and losing too much weight while pregnant. I discovered that my thyroid was hyperactive, and within 10 minutes had to decide to have it removed with an emergency op because my baby was in crisis. Scared and confused, I agreed, so my baby was born 3 months early, healthy although small, but I was minus 3/4 of my thyroid. I picked up 70 pounds in 6 months, but was just thankful to be alive and have a happy healthy little girl. Long story short, here I am, overweight and miserable, and ready to take on this challenge, but a little scared it won't work. I prepared my (wonderful) husband and kids for it, cleaned out the fridge and kitchen cupboards, and stocked up on everything that is allowed, so I feel ready to start tomorrow. I've joined the gym and just finished reading the book. This was a hectic day, but I'm sure it will be worth it. Here's to the start of a new beginning and hopefully a new me!

    Welcome!!

You'll love it here. Atkins is easy to stick to and you will NOT be hungry, or tired, or overemotional.

I gained weight after an accident to both Achiles tendons 9 years ago and have lugged it around all that time. Silly me!

I began Atkins on 10 September at 108kg (240lbs). I lost 11 kg (almost 25 lbs) in induction, and hav lost a kg (2.202 lb) per week since. And that was with not much exercise. This week I joined the gym and have been every morning - oh my legs ache!

Some tips - Induction is boring. Just keep saying "I an do anything for just 14 days". You can, you know. Eat lots of fresh veggies and nice fresh meat.

Keep a food journal, I use an exercise book.

    Weigh weekly only.

Measure your self before you start (yes, I hated doing it too! What a horrible shock!). Then remeasure once a month or so.

I've lost 8" from bust, 3" from waist and 5" from my big bum! I can fit into clothes I haven't worn for 6 or 7 years.

Put a now picture up - a nice unflattering one, and a photo of a swimsuit you'd like to be able to wear (look in a catalogue). Kitchen or bathroom are good places. It will really help keep you on the straight and narrow.

You'll really appreciate losing the weight when chasing those toddlers. Stick with it, if I can do it anyone can.

Good luck! (and don't forget to come back rgularly and tell us how you're doing).

I lost 11kg or 25.4lbs in 14 days on Induction!
